I installed a good number of extensions over the years and saw several defective Tac-Star extensions.
Problems included:
Tubes crooked on the collar.
A collar that was egg-shaped and wouldn't screw on.
Tubes that were separating from the collar.
To answer the OP's question, most extensions are quite serviceable.
My opinion, the best for the price/quality is the Choate.
It was the first after the Remington factory extension and has a LONG history of good quality and good service.
It comes in blued or parkerized, in many lengths, and as a complete kit with extension, spring, heavy-duty follower, and the barrel clamp with sling swivels.
