need a case of 9mm - what to buy?

I am going to be taking a level 2 defense class and a case of ammo for it. I was wondering what is the cheapest 9mm that is reliable. I was thinking probably 115 gr fmjs since I will only be shooting targets, but I don't want some crappy ammo that is going to be misfiring on me during the class. I found some stuff at www.cheaperthandirt.com but I was wondering which brands of the cheap stuff are ok, and which to stay away from.

The stuff from South Africa is nice clean ammo, shoots well (I have shot a lot thru sub-guns). Their .45 works well in my pistols.

For practice, I've been using the 115 gr FMJ from Georgia Arms. Comes in 100 round poly bags and is affordable. Had one DNF in 300 rounds.

Bdog, I have shot about 5000 rounds of the S&B (Czech made) ammo over the past few years without a single failure. It's very consistent and well made. i still have no idea how they can make ammo that cheap.

CTD has this ammo in stock.

I've shot a lot of S&B ammo over the years, in .380, 9mm, .40, .45, 6.5x55, .303 Brit, 12ga. I've never had a misfire. Only complaint is that it's a bit dirty. Not as dirty as UMC, mind you.

I will second the vote for S&B -- the only complaint is that the primer pockets are a bit tighter than other brands of 9mm Luger. So if you don't reload, forget about the above comment. :)

Cheapest place I've found South African PMP is $109 delivered from GFCC. See http://www.gfccarmex.com/

Reloading S&B brass is doable, but it takes a big more push to seat the primers than most brass. I've reloaded over 1K rounds of it.

Buying it new is cheap and reliable. Their packaging is very compact.

I have heard that Cheaper Than Dirt hits you pretty hard on handeling and shipping cost. I've never ordered from them but you may want to establish a firm shipping price from them before ordering. We have a member here that works nights at CTD that may be able to shed some light on the subject but my old timers is kicking in and I can't recall his user name.
I have also had good luck with S&B ammo.

I was promised a Shortycicle and I want a Shortycicle!

Cheaper than Dirt has fixed rates for shipping depending on how much you spend. If you spend over $100 the rate is around $19 I think (just going from memory).

My solution to that is to pile on and try and order everything I want at once.

Greetings,

I also order ammo from GeorgiaArms.com. It's not the cheapest, but it always goes bang (not KABANG).

TX? Well, Academy Sports in the state offer Blazer 9mm FMJ at $5.99 for 50. Sometimes on sale for $4.99. True you have to pay tax and it is not reloadable. But, I've shots many thousands of rounds over the years with not one ammo failure.
