I need a bolt action rifle for hunting. I have never hunted before, but my friends want to go on a pig/wild boar hunting trip in the near future, so I figure I'd got get something now and learn to shoot it well . anyway I have a very limited budget. what are you experiences with different rifles. And which do you think is the best value?

I suggest going to a few pawnshops and find a bargain.
You can even find one scoped with a decent scope.
Take the money you save and practice.

The Name Brand of the rifle is meaningless if you can't hit your target. And I hear tell a Savage or Winchester .308 hits just as a Weatherby .308...

chink,

If I were just starting out and needed a good hunting gun, Id buy a Savage 30-06. Affordable, reliable, accurate, and versitale. You'll have to spend some $$ to get a good scope, but thats optional. You can get good with iron sights. Id get a scope if I could afford it but wouldnt be upset to use iron sights. Good luck.

I just bought a stainless/composite stocked Howa (7mm Rem Mag.) at Bass Pro for--get this--$319.99+tax (reg. price is only $419).

The Howa was rated #1 in Gun Tests magazine vs the Remington ADL and the Savage. Best trigger, has hinged floorplate, etc--just best overall.

A Weaver V-10 Silver is on its way--I'll report on the range results later if anyone wants, but they have received good comments here before. Best, weegee
