Need a barrel for a 1952 Rem. Wingmaster 20 ga.

I have a 20 GA. Remington 870 Wingmaster 2 3/4", made in 1952. I am looking for a barrel that will fit, preferably a 18" to 20" cyl. bore, or one that can be cut down.
As is, it has a wonderful hunting barrel and I would like to get a "home defense" barrel as a second barrel. I have heard the barrels for the modern 870's don't fit those of the 1950's. Anyone have a source for a barrel?

Does it make a difference if you have a standard or light contour?

Not sure what you are asking..... I have run across some for sale that talk about whether a quarter will fit through the magazine tube ring attached to the barrel. A quarter DOES fit through the magazine ring on my current barrel. The serial number on the receiver ends in an X and the barrel is stamped ZZ if that helps identify it.

(EDIT) My current barrel is also marked MOD and I just read that light contour barrels were not made until the 1990's? I guess it is a standard contour. As long as the new barrel fits up to the receiver, I dont care about the contour.

Yep, twobit. That was what I wondered. I don't really know, but some things I looked at suggested that you can use a modern 18.5 inch barrel if you have a standard frame as you do. BUT CHECK WITH SOMEONE THAT REALLY KNOWS BECAUSE IT ISN'T ME. Some stuff I read indicates that you can use a barrrel chambered for 3", but should not fire 3" with a 2.75" receiver. I know the 18.5" barrel that came with my Express, which was bought at the end of last December, has the magzine cap detent and spring. Most Express barrels do not. Some are predrilled for the spring and detent and some are not. If it is predrilled, it isn't much work to install the detent and spring (if you have the $20 tool to peen the edge of the hole in so as to keep them from popping out. If you order a new Express barrel and it doesn't have them, its a $25 charge if ordered with the barrel IIRC. Might be $45 but I think it is $25.

I see that Corsons Barrels has two available that are listed as fitting, but they are $250 plus $20 shipping. I could get a good used Mossberg or 870 home defense quality shotgun for that price! Also....my current barrel does have that spring loaded small detent ball on the magazine ring.

I don't know about a wingmaster barrel per se, but I think that is far too much to pay especially for a used barrrel. I looked around and got a good used 28" field barrel for my 870 for $85 plus $12 for shipping form a private party. I have heard that the used short barrels go for more than the long ones.

I thing the Anaheim, CA pd just auctioned off about 25 department guns for less than that $250.
