Need .357 sig

I have just been lusting over a .357sig lately. I have most other calibers and just have to get one(How many times haVE I said that.) My question is who make a good pistol in this caliber. Size does not matter because I carry out in the open most of the time so full size works. I would prefer an American gun.

A SIG P-229 is half-American.

I don't think Ruger, Colt, Kahr, or *&* have ever offered anything in .357SIG.

The Sig 239 is made in the USA. The Sig 229 is made in the USA. Sig Sauer of course is not an American Company. I have the 239 and it is an excellent handgun.

The other .357SIg I own is a H&K USP Compact.

While S&W did catalog the Sigma pistol in .357Sig for a while, I don't think they still market it.

Taurus catalogs a .357Sig PT357 pistol. Glock has 3 models.
Steyr made the M357 but they are going to be hard to find until they start importing them again through Dynamit Nobel.

Beretta made Cougar in .357Sig, but I don't think they are shipping it. Walther and Ruger do not make one, and as for Walther, there are no plans for one.

The only ones I would recommend you consider are the Sig 229/239 and H&K USP Compact.

Regards,
James

I shot a few different .357sigs before I bought mine.

I tried the SigPro 2340, the Sig P-229, and the Glock compact.

I bought a full size Sig P-226. In the 226, the .357sig round barks but it doesn't bite. It's no tougher to handle than a +P round out of a 1911 when you shoot it out of the Big Sig. The polymers all gave me a workout when I shot them in this caliber. I looked long and hard at the 229, but decided that I wanted the extra sight radius that the 226 offered along with the extra few ounces.

Mine's accurate and tough and it doesn't wear you out shooting a couple boxes of ammo at the range.

H&K all the way.

I have a H&K compact in 357sig. Excellent weapon. Of those listed in this thread this would be the one i would advise you to buy.

I had a sig229, good weapon also, but the H&K had more features i wanted.

12-34hom.

My personal preference is the Glock 32. You should really try one before you decide. With a simple barrel swap, you can easily convert it to .40 Auto; with a conversion barrel and magazine, you can easily convert it to 9mm. We "Glockers" do it frequently with great success.

Three guns in one -- what more could you ask for?!

.357SIG is a very interesting caliber, one of the very few bottlenecked cartridges ever to be commercially successful in this country. I like the whole idea behind it...modern cartridge technology at its finest, giving .357 Magnum ballistics out of an autochucker.

My choice for .357SIG is the Glock 32, which is (of course) Austrian-made. As pointed out, some of the SIG Sauer pistols in that caliber are made in the US, even though the parent company is German/Swiss. Off the top of my head, I can't think of an "American" gun which is chambered for .357SIG.

Glock makes three pistols in that caliber: the full-size G31, the compact G32, and the subcompact G33. All of them can be converted to .40 simply by swapping the barrels with their .40-caliber counterparts.

I have a Glock 32 and would suggest it. I also have A Federal Arms 40 S&W bbl. The 3.5 lb connector makes all the difference in the trigger.
The nice thing about the FA 40 bbl is that it has a smaller chamber and better case head support than factory bbl.

Lendringser,

SVI Infinity offers a 357 SIG in their line of 1911 guns. But I suspect it not a major seller, since the ammunition is a tad bit pricy and choice of bullets for reloading is rather limited.

Like my Sig 229 no doubt. Slightly larger size and grip than the P239 makes it easier to handle the .357 Sig recoil.
One of my shooting parntners just picked up a Glock 32. Only put about 30 rounds through it but it shot well.
.357 Sig is loud, you will get some wondering looks at an indoor range.
Take Care

I have a Sig P239 in .357 Sig, and I also have a .40 S&W barrel for it. I typically keep the .40 S&W barrel in for a couple of reasons. First off, the recoil with .357 Sig is significantly greater than the .40 S&W. Secondly, I've read of people having problems with their carry ammo in .357 Sig, due to the short neck on the cartridge, the case doesn't grasp the bullet as firmly as in other cartridges, and so continually loading and unloading magazines can cause to bullet to be pushed too deeply into the cartridge, possibly causing problems. And lastly, choices in ammo for the cartridge, there is a much greater selection for the .40 S&W.

Ditto blades and Gremlin: the SIG 226 is a nice platform for the 357 SIG. I have a 226, 229 and G32; had a G33. In none of them is it any trouble to shoot the 357 SIG, but the 226 is the "softest" shooting. Accuracy abt the same as the 229 for me, both having a slight advantage on the Glock (which is actually with me most often).

Other than a used POS S&W Sigma, you'll be hard-pressed to find something 100% American.

Glocks are the best as in any caliber. But Sig makes some very nice 357 sigs as well. For ccw the Glock 32 and 33 and Sig 239 are top choices. Beretta makes the courgar in 357 sig. I used to own a Courgar in 40 and was not that happy with the guns accuracy. HK also makes a compact in 357 sig.

END

This is not true the price of 357 sig ammo is about the same as 40 sw ammo. Blazer ammo can be had for about 12 a box. Winchester, CCI and Remington also make inexpensive plinking ammo for the caliber. Defense ammunition in 357 sig is also the same price as the 40 sw. As for reloading you can use most truncated cone profile 9mm bullets. SO in reality there is a huge selection of bullets available for the 357 sig. There are the same diameter .355. The only reason some 9mm bullets don't work is you can't get a good crimp on some of them.

The Taurus .357 Sig gun is a PT957...basically a PT940 a .40 S&W
with a different barrel....typical change for most manufacturers.
I would check this gun out...I had a PT940 and will get another soon, along with a 357 Sig barrel. Shoot well

I have GLOCKs in 357 SIG, but I'd agree that the SIGs are more comfortable in that caliber. I like my P229 most.:)

Taurus in .357Sig...

Eric,

On the conversion of the PT940 to .357Sig, if you plan on aquiring a .357Sig barrel from Taurus(that's if they'll do the deal), remember that Taurus only makes the PT357 in a ported version. No non-ported .357Sig pistols in the Taurus alloy frame line-up.

Also, in so far as I have been able to find out, there are no other barrel suppliers that currently list a drop-in barrel for the PT900 series pistols(possible exception being the PT945).
