Need 20 gauge HD Suggestions

I need a lightweight 20 gauge automatic with an 18" barrel, no pistol grip or thumbhole.

I would prefer something on the less expensive side.

I like the Mossberg 930 SPX but can't find a similar model in 20 gauge.

Know of anything?

1100, but dwell time considerations mean your barrel should be 21" or more.

We picked up a Mossberg 500 series youth model in 20 gauge for my mom a couple of weeks ago, and she loves it.

I use a Winchester 1300 Defender for home defense. This is the last of the real Winchesters. I like this model it works great and is light weight. Im not thinking of moving to a 12ga not sure what one yet but looking.

This one holds 7 shells +1 I believe. I need to re-check that as I have them all in the tube and not one chambered.

I have a Rem. 1100 LT-20 synthetic youth gun that fits your description almost exactly. The barrel is 21" but the stock is shortened and it's actually about the same length overall as my 18" 870 HD gun.

I paid $350 for it used, two years ago. For HD, I would rather have an 11-87 since it gives 3" capability, they are also available in 20 ga. youth and I've seen them sell recently for $400.

Your pretty much defaulted to the Saiga-20 and recoil operated guns that you are more than likely going to have to hack the barrel.

Charles Daly makes a 20 ga semi-auto. You could pick up a new one for around $350-400.

IF you decide on a pump, my father-in-law bought his GF a NEF pardner youth 20ga for HD duty. SHe LOVES it! Also its ~ 1/2 the price ($205) as the Charles daly!

Any youth model..

20s are fun. There are some cheaper new guns, but the 1100 has a proven design, all steel receiver and some great used guns floating around with some character from use. Just find and older plain barrel model and have it cut to your desired length. The older models will also not have the dimpled mag tubes so you can add extended magazines. rc
