The instruction booklet states that becuase of bird laws in certain states, the mossbergs are shipped with a wooden dowel in the mag tube to limit the capacity. Unscrew the takedown screw and tilt the barrel of the gun towards the floor and shake it ... the wooden dowel should shows its head. Just pull it out and you are set

I recommend reading the manual and getting to know your gun :)

awesome it worked...just a long piece of wood with 2 rubber rings on it...cameright out now 6 shells...im not a hunter by no means....but im also not gonna be home invasioned during the holidays...it really scared us..iam a profesionall mma fightere and i was scared for a bit...thanks bro

ShotGun for Home Defense

U might want to read the book, "In the Gravest Extreme" too. It talks about the pros and cons of using deadly force.

A bit more advice

What's you living situation?...#8 shot will make a mess of someone at short range, and you won't (much) risk it penetrating walls and such...However, It wouldn't necessarly be a manstopper either, once you get out to 25-30 feet...If you live where you have to worry about the shot penetrating walls/ceilings, I would recommend #4 birdshot(still not a stopper, but better than #8)...If thats not a problem (like for me I live in a large house, semi rural area...No worries about penetrating walls) I would go to 00 buck shot... Try to find a place where you can go out and practice with the gun, so you are familiar with its operation...In a stressed situation, you'll be operating on instinct/training, and you need to be able to adequately handle the gun....

Take it to the range and put a few boxes (75-100 shells, costs about 15 bucks per 100) downrange.

You will get a feel for the gun which is exactly what you need right now since you are new to guns. In a high stress situation you want to know exactly what that gun is gonna do.
