Neatest looking SAA bbl length??

Definitely the 5 1/2" barrel. It looks the most balanced and elegant.

BTW, can you believe I had a 2nd generation, 45 LC, 5.5" barrel, year 1956, unfired in the original box, with all the papers, and sold it for $1800? :(

I have a 2nd generation SAA with the 5 1/2" barrel, but I like the looks of the 4 3/4". Even with the end ot the ejector rod, it looks right.

Sigh, to think I let a 2nd generation .357 mag in that bbl. length get away. Boy, could I shoot that revolver.

4 3/4" -- very compact. A little short for optimal ballistics (maybe), but very handy when working, moving around, whatever.

Lavan:

If you want "traditional" stick with the 7.5" barrell

The 5.5" was for Artillery and the 4.625 was for civilians<s>

A loooong time ago, when I lived and worked in "the woods" ( in Oregon ) I owned a Colt SA 45 with the 7.5" barrel and I used to carry it in a spring clip shoulder holster under my jacket ( to keep it clean and dry )

Sure did come in handy at times<s>

I think my S&W Model 586 with 8 3/8" barrel looks cool as all heck. When I get the money though, I want a pair of Ruger 44's with the 10½" bull barrels. Does it get any badder than that?

4 3/4 - though I confess I would make space for any homeless orphans in the other barrel lengths.

I'd love to have one of the Frontiers in 7 1/2. Unfortunately I am adverse to a second mortgage.

I've got at least one example of every factory offered barrel length but my preference runs to the 4.75" (Colt)/4.625" Vaquero. Although I do enjoy taking out my 12" Buntline and fondling it regularly. There is something about the Buntline that is.........well sexy, for lack of a better term.
On a related note I use my regular carry 6" model 29 Smith to demonstrate our concealment holsters at gun shows. After drawing it from concealment last weekend at a show one of the on lookers was shocked that he had not seen it under the light dress shirt I wearing and said, "Damn, you've got a long barrel". I replied, "Yes, I know but I don't like to brag". :D
