I don't know if it would work, but it's just an idea I get from shotguns that can fire both 3.5" ulti-mag shells and regular 2.75" shells, regardless of the difference in length of the two cartridges.
How about a combo lever rifle that fired either .45 Colt or .45-70? Would it work better as a pump rifle?
Here are some reasons it may not work:
-The difference in length of the two cartridges it too great.
-They don't have the same exact bore diameter
But, if you could make it work, it'd probably sell pretty well. Imagine a lever rifle with like an 18" barrel, advertised as being able to take either 4+1 rounds of .45-70 or 8+1 rounds of .45 Colt? Hell, I'd buy one. You'd have your carbine and big bore thumper all in one neat little package.
