NcStar scopes

I just picked up a rifle with one of these scopes, I know that it's a cheapie Chinese but I'm really looking for an objective view. Pro or con, I want to hear truth from experience. It worked fine on the range today and I was feeding some pretty maxed out 30-06 ammo. I switched it to the '06 just to beat it up some and see if I could break it. It held up just fine, so far.

I have 2 of them, a 3~9X44 with the illuminated reticule, & one 3~9X42 without the illumination.

One (illuminated) is fine & I use it regularly with no problems on a 30 cal rifle. It is NOT a $300.00 scope & I don't get the quality I'd expect from one either, but is it acceptable? YES.

The other ( model # SC3942B) is a totally different story. It is bluntly put, a piece of cheap junk that isn't even good as a boat anchor.

The two are NOT the same optically, one is 100% better than the other. The non-illuminated model has a coarse reticule (unlike the illuminated one which is fine). It will not show a target clearly at anything above 6X, again, unlike the illuminated one.

I don't know if I have a "bad" one in the non-illuminated one due to poor quality control, or wether the model is just sub-standard in general.

Based on these 2 I'd insist on actually looking at & thru any of them before I'd buy another, as I'm wary about consistant quality.

NcStar makes their scopes for AirSoft guns, not for firearms. The fact that they survive on real guns speaks to the quality of work that goes into assembling them. Quality of work is not the same as quality of components. I have only looked through one NcStar scope, and it made me think I was drunk. I could not focus on anything, and it looked like I was looking through oiled glass. But it was a pretty scope! Save your money and buy a better scope.

6x24x50mm Illuminated

I used a Ncstar 6x24x50mm illuminated on my Sendero in 7mm rem mag ,it held zero just fine, worked well at the range, and is accurate ....I shot a few critters using this scope,I think I piad $125.00 for it,I now have Burris 4x16x50mm w/ a 30mm tube.($400.00)...much better clarity ....than the NCSTAR ,The NcStar is now on auctionarms.com if anyone is interested in it .....BB34

I bought the AR scope with mount and it would not hold zero. Looked cool with red or green sights, but didn't hold up very well. Waste of money IMO.

I bought the Mini-14 scope and it was a piece of... Well, you get the idea. Never again. One of the worst $70 lessons I have learned.
