NCR Penality when placing an order -- anyone hear of this?

I just ordered some Crimson Trace Lasergrip sights for my Taurus 85 (when they arrive, I might be posting questions on how to get them properly installed and adjusted) and the person taking the order over the telephone asked me if I was an NRA member and I said "yes" because I am. Then, she asked me for the membership number and since I normally don't carry the card with me (I'm trying to minimize stuff in my wallet and only carry the stuff that I expect to need such as a few credit cards, DL, CWL, insurance cards, AAA, etc.) and didn't know what the number was. She then informed me that since she could not verify my membership, she would have to charge me a $0.12 penality! Since I was buying some other items besides the laser sights, the $0.12 amount to 0.5% of the total sale.

Has anyone had this happen to them or heard of this?

Was there a discount for being a NRA member and she was not able to give you the full discount because of non-confirmation or she added 5% penalty to your order over and above regular price?

Sorry, typo. The title should have said "NRA" instead of "NCR" -- no wonder nobody is reading this post. Moderator, can you edit the title for me?

gRAVEdgN, it wasn't 5% but 0.5% (half of a percent) -- not a very big discount or penality either way you look at it. Makes me wonder why they even bothered.

I guess only true card-carrying members get the discount :)

I quit carrying mine, too, as the result of a wallet-size-reduction program.

I can't help you there -- but you are going to let a fellow Taurus 85 owner know how it works aren't you?

As far as how well they work? Well, how does 5 out of 5 shots in the X-ring of an NRA B9 target at fifty feet from a 2" snubbie sound to you? The only drawback is that they add over half an inch to the grip and while that isn't a big deal when I carry around the house, that extra bulge does make me a little self conscious when I run out for quick local trips.

I haven't decided when I'm going to leave it on my 85UL/UC which I use as my around the house / neighborhood and local trips gun; or put them on my SS 85 which I use as my non-carry CCW.

What is a non-carry CCW you may ask? Good question, I may start a thread on that later on today but just between you and me (and who ever else reads this post which has been buried because of a typo in the title), I use the 85SS as a carry gun which isn't always on my person. For example, when going out, I'll throw it under the seat. When going to the office, I'll bring it inside my briefcase and then lock it in my desk drawer -- this is in addition to another firearm that I have on my person (either a Kahr MK9 for deep concealment or a S&W 3913 for less deep concealment). It's with me within relatively quick access and it's relatively secure.

But to summarize my answer, the sight are GREAT -- the only thing that would have made them PERFECT would have been if the grips were the exact same size and did not increase the size of the gun. Regards, FUD.
