Nazi Stamped Colt Model 57 in 30-06

Got my hands on a very interesting Rifle. I don't know much about this rifle other than it's called "The Colt 57.". It's a K98 FN receiver with Nazi markings and a 30-06 Jefferson Barrel. I did a bit of poking around but i couldn't find anymore info on this gun. Regardless it's interesting and seems to be a good shooter so far. Hope you enjoy the video. The Colt Model 57 was marketed in the late 50's ( I believe ). 5000 were made in 30-06 and .243. It was a FN Mauser action and Jefferson barrel. It was manufactured by Jefferson Manufacturing in Hartford, CT. It was a private label that Colt sold under their name. I'm rather intrigued by the Nazi markings since the gun was built in the U.S. long after the collapse of the Third Reich and contains no German parts. It does have a Mauser action, but it is not a German Mauser action but rather a Belgium made Mauser action (FN). Can you show a picture of the " Nazi " markings? I just looked at your You Tube. That is not a Colt Model 57, it is a WWII K 98 action with a Colt marked ( Jefferson ) barrel. Some time in the past someone decided to change the barrel on a Colt Model 57, the left over barrel was then used to make your rifle.You have a nice rifle and it should shoot well but unfortunately it is a mix-master, not a Jefferson Colt, sorry about that.

The "42" on the receiver is the factory code for Mauser AG Oberndorf, and 1939 is the date of manufacture.

The three eagles on the right side are Waffenamts, inspection/proof marks.

On edit, are there any eagles or numbers on the bolt? It would be interesting if is a numbers matching receiver and bolt.

Yes the serial numbers on the bolt match the receiver. The magazine plate and trigger guard do as well. They also have a number of insignia on them.
 
A Model 57 is really nothing special ( in my opinion ) it is not even a real Colt. Now that 1939 K98 , in good condition and original, would probably beat out the 57 in an auction by a couple of hundred bucks. Oh, if I only had a time machine to correct all the wrongs committed in the past.:D
 
Many people mistake eagle proof stamps for Nazi markings.
An eagle isn't necessarily Nazi.

It is, there is no mistaking the markings. You still got a good rifle, Many a custom rifle has been built on a K98 action, however most times the markings have been scrubbed.
