Navy Arms 1873 SAA - Opinions

Just bought a used Navy Arms 1873 SAA US Artillery model. Looks to be in great shape except for a light timing ring around the cylinder and a little end shake. I was ready to buy a new Uberti Cattleman to introduce myself to the cowboy-style firearms, but got tempted by the availability of this pistol. Experiences with Navy Arms??? Did I make a good purchase at $319? It has the tell tale Uberti hammer with built in safety, so I figured I was getting a Uberti anyway.

Navy Arms started the Italian “Western” revolver business when they started Umberti making copies of the Colt 1851 Navy back in the 1960’s. They have always imported good stuff. Log onto http://www.brownnels.com for gunsmithing tools and parts to correct the cylinder end play. From what you describe I’d say what you paid was top-dollar, but not unreasonable for what you got. I think you will be pleased with it.

I have a Uberti that has given good service, but today, I think the US Firearms Rodeo is a steal at $505; some may not like the matte blue, but believe me, it grows on you. The ones I have seen have been extremely well fitted, properly timed and made of good materials. The US Firearms guns are about as close as you can get to the old Colts; even the Colt custom shop doesn't do as good a job.
