In addition to belonging to the NRA, I have been thinking about joining the SAF and wanted to see how many TFL members belong to one or more of these three big national organizations... NRA, GOA or SAF.

Never heard of SAF and don't like GOA. Been a member of the NRA for a long time. Off and on probably 20 years. Gun rights I see as essential to preserving freedom in the US. I do a lot of other things to preserve freedom but spend more time on each when there is a specific threat.

Like right now.

I'm a member of both the NRA and SAF. Without getting into a NRA vs. GOA vs. anything else thread veer, suffice to say that I've not been impressed with GOA and, as such, haven't seen a necessity to join them.

Never heard of SAF

SAF is the abbreviation for Second Amendment Foundation and they work almost exclusively on the judicial side of things. Both Heller v. District of Columbia and McDonald v. Chicago were SAF lawsuits.

I have been a Life Member of the NRA for a while, now. As of yesterday, I am a Life Member of SAF, too.

Edit: I also email or write my Senators and Congressman at times like this, and have a semi-regular email conversation on politics and gun control with the public editor of the KC Star.

"Both Heller v. District of Columbia and McDonald v. Chicago were SAF lawsuits."

No, wrong. Heller was started by Robert Levy of the Cato Institute. SAF jumped on the band wagon after Heller and used attorney Alan Gura who was handpicked by Levy and Cato Institute for Heller for McDonald which was a SAF case.

SAF is worth supporting as are the others.
