National NMLRA Bench Rest Pistol Matches

For those of you who might be so inclined there are bench rest pistol matches
at Friendship Indiana. You are permitted to use a "Red Dot" sight. Any kind of
muzzleloading pistol including revolvers may be used. These matches are shot in the June "Spring" Nationals and again in Sept. The "Fall Shoot". The matches are fired at 25 yd 50 yd and 100 yd. Each match is a 5 shot match and is fired on the NRA slow fire pistol target. What won this year and
last year is a 5 shot group of about 4 inches at 50 yds. Matches are not won
on groups though, they are won on score. A score of 47 at 50 yds will usually
win it. 49 to 50 is what it takes at 25 yds. For those of you who might think
this is a cake walk, it is not. I have tried it and it is very hard. Anyway it's
just another match to drive you nuts!

That's really interesting.
So is it required to shoot patched round balls or do they allow conicals and/or sabots too?

Do they allow conventional 1X glass scopes in addition to the red dots?

What kind of bench rests or bags do they allow or can only elbows be used for support?
Questions, questions.
I don't know if I could find the regulations on the NMLRA site.
But it sure sounds like it would be a fun competition.

OK, I'm reading from the 2010 NMLRA match program. This is a direct quote.

Match 25 Bench Rest Aggregate-Classified. 25,50,and 100yds. 5 shots offhand style pistol, any sight, ball, or bullet. For firing position a stool may be
used or kneeling. The pistol forward of the trigger guard may be placed on a
rest (provided by the shooter). The pistol may not be double rested (must be
held by one or both hands or supported by a gloved hand) with the muzzle
forward of the bench. Nothing may be attached to the bench-no screws, bolts, clamps, straps, cords, ect. of any kind is allowable. Un-quote.

There it all is. That is a direct quote. Mykeal is a NMLRA pistol range officer.
He might be able to answer any other questions. Glad you have a interest.
Not like some people on here who think there are no bench matches.

I wish that they had matches like that around here. We've got SASS and the occasional BPCR silhouette match, but that's about it.

I know, I know, stop whining and do something about it, right? :D

Well what do you think people? Is that enough shooting for you in a weeks
time? There is something there for everybody.

I'll need to look into the question about the 1x glass scope, but I believe it's acceptable for the bench matches. It'll be a couple of days before I can get to it, however.
