I was reading an article about the Dallas Mayor (Laura Miller) attending the summit hosted by Mayor Bloomberg.

This quote was in it....

"We see a lot of crime in the city and it's not the legal gun holders that are the people committing those crimes," said Dep. Chief Mike Genovesi, Dallas Police Department.

No crap Sherlock....

than I see this quote....

"Both the Dallas Police Department and the mayor agree that Texas has lax laws when it comes to gun possession, and there is no statewide data base in place to track who owns a gun.

if its not the legal owners what do "lax" gun laws have to do criminals causing the gun problem? That the reason they call them criminals Mike....

Mike what are the chances of a criminal registering a gun?

so lets make more gun laws the criminals wont follow!

what the hezze!

I dont know Mike..some of you may. You might want to point out to him that he makes no sense at all........

criminal register a gun?

FYI, a criminal (such as a convicted felon) is protected from prosecution for failure to register his gun. He CAN be charged with having a gun (a crime, since he is prohibited from having one), BUT he CANNOT be charged with a crime for not registering his gun, since, as a criminal, registering his gun would be admitting to a crime (self incrimination) and he is protected against that by his 5th Amendment rights.

How can a drug dealer be charged for not buying a tax stamp for his drugs?

Is the tax stamp thing a civil matter??

Give em a Sheriff over a Police Chief every time. A Police Chief is selected by the Mayor and City Council. The Sheriff is ELECTED by the PEOPLE. The Police Chief works at the pleasure of the Mayor, and is answerable only to the Mayor and City Council. The Sheriff works at the pleasure of the PEOPLE and is answerable to them. If the Sheriff gets out of hand, vote him out or even recall him. If the Police Chief gets out of hand... good luck! Give me a Sheriff!!

First of all, it is not the business of "The Government" - local, state or federal - to know who owns what guns. Such a database has one and only one purpose: To be used at some point to expedite gun confiscation.

If gun control laws really brought safety, NYC should be one of the safest cities on earth.

It seems something less than that. Given the claims and rhetoric of the anti gunners, how can that be? Perhaps NYC's Mayor could explain.
