National CCW

A friend mentioned that there is currently a national CCW permit. He said it has something to do with Homeland Security Agency. Do any of you have any information on this or is this just BS? I was told it is a 9-week course which includes handguns, rifles, and shotguns. I understand it is not a recriprocity law, but a national permit. This has appeal to me.

I was talking to an X-Federal Marshall and he mentioned that the course that I referenced above is intended for law enforecment personnel and not normal civilians. He has a national carry permit as a retired LEO and it is connected to the Homeland Security Agency.

Also, DHS has nothing to do with H.R.218.

Like TBM said, there are no actual federal permits issued. Such a critter does not exist, period. He can carry on the badge if he's active LE or retired with at least 20 years on the job if he maintains his qualification.

Thank you. The important point is that he does not have a card or license in his wallet that allows national carry. It appears to be an issue of terminology. Effectively, the X-federal marshall (with adequate service and yearly qualification) does have a national carry permission. He mentioned that he is required to do the yearly qualification.

So, if you become a deputy sheriff or something similar (perhaps game warden), could you in fact eventually have a national permission to legally carry in the entire US (50 states) as the law stands now?

You wouldn't have a "national carry license." What you have is a law that says if you are a retired LEO and can maintain the firearm qualifications set forth by your former department, you may carry a firearm anywhere in the US just as if you were an active LEO with jurisdiction in that area.

To play devils advocate here:

There is a "federal permit" but just not to us "civilians". The permit is in the form of a badge that is flipped open that says FBI, DEA, ATFE, etc.. (you get the picture).

This "permit" gets you the power to carry anywhere, at anytime (on or off duty) and you even get to fly with it.

This "permit" also gives you the power to carry in the US Territories and even on lands/countries that disarm their own people.

So, technically, there is a "federal CCW permit". It just can't be had by mere citizens.

:D

Wouldn't a national carry permit be the 2nd Amendment?

Naw, it's an outdated piece of paper thats been framed so the masses can walk by it and point.

Present law trumps old law. If you don't believe me, just try to carry concealed in NY, NJ, etc.. without a permit.

You can scream "2nd Amendment", "Bill of Rights" all day long and the only thing that you're going to get is laughed and pointed at by your cell mates and guards :(.

*geez, that sounded melodramatic didn't it :(

It's only 15 years, not 20. And even less under certain circumstances, like a duty disability not related to mental health.

`(3)(A) before such retirement, was regularly employed as a law enforcement officer for an aggregate of 15 years or more; or

`(B) retired from service with such agency, after completing any applicable probationary period of such service, due to a service-connected disability, as determined by such agency;
