A. Springfield 1911 TRP
B. Springfield 1911 Loaded
C. Sig 1911 Tac Ops (Comes with a SIG 522 for only $200)
D. FNX 45 Tactical
E. FNX 45

My max price range is around $1,600. This gun is for Home Defense and Range Days.

Let me know what you guys thing. I like the way all these guns feel in my hand. Just not sure about there reliability.

You seem to have a 1911 fascination and I support that. Though for 1600 I'd look at a Dan Wesson over a Sig or Springer, you should be able to find a Stainless Valor for 1500ish.

My second choice for a HD gun would be the FNX.

After their shenanigans in Illinois, Springfield won't be getting my money anytime soon... unless I see a great deal on an M1A SOCOM...

I love my FN FNP 45.

The FNX is an update to it. Great shooter right out of the box. Great trigger. I'd get the tactical version.

The Springfield 1911 Loaded has been on my wishlist since something in its price range was impossible for me to buy. Now, it is on the high end for me, and above what I prefer to spend so I still don't have one, but I will. For you, it is about 1/2 of your budget for the basic Loaded (I've seen a new one as low as $750 BIN on Gunbroker) and about 2/3 of your budget for the more expensive versions. So, I'm not totally objective, but I'd go with the Springfield Loaded.

I have a Springfield Loaded and it is my favorite pistol. Accurate, reliable, feels good in my hand AND my petite wife can make it perform like a champion.

To thos that commented on your .45 obsession I say AWESOME!!

I would get B park'd with night sights. Shoot the heck out of it and repair it when it breaks.

That said, I think you need to look at Colt & Dan Wesson again.

I use and love my FNX-45 for home and range work (its my bed side gun). Its weight vs capacity is excellent and it can be safely carried cocked and locked like a 1911 if you want to skip the DA first shot, the rail also makes mounting a light a breeze. A 1911 is nice but why limit my capacity in a range / home defense role?

After what was uncovered about what Springfield was doing, I'd never own one again. How aboutt he Ruger SR1911? Very solid gun worth a lot more than the asking price. They actually continue to creep up there but still can be had for 700 or so. Arguably the best 1911 for the price. Sig? I cant get past the external extractor. Sorry, but if you're going to make a 1911 dont cheap out and put an external extractor on it. S&W does this too. With all the quality issues with Sig and S&W I wouldn't entertain either. Yes, I do have friends who work at both Exeter and Portsmouth plants and they wont even buy Sigs despite the generous 50% employee discount.

I would likely choose the Sig Tac Ops. A very fine gun. I have several Sigs and would put them above all other makers except for H&K. Both makers produce superior firearms which have proven track records. There are probably a few folks out there that would talk Sig down likely never owning one.

I had that Sig tac-pac. It's a very accurate mill bastard to shoot. In a long session, it will file your hands. It was ammo sensitive as well. I kept a TRP champion HRT special. The finer cut on the grip checkering isn't nearly as obnoxious. It is accurate as well. I actually prefer a USP compact 45 for carry. It's just a great gun. I also think the Sig 227 is one fine .45. The only place I see them anymore is the one I have! I think a few State police units still carry 227. It's a large piece, really only suitable for open carry.

In my experience, reliability might be an issue for a given example of a gun, but there aren't any "unreliable guns" on your list.
Of the guns listed, I'd prefer the TRP.

Just buy the one you like the most.
No one else can pick one for you.
If it feels right, buy it.
If you decide later you don't like it, you aren't married to it.

I think of the FNX as a traditional DA/SA but it can certainly be carried cocked and locked. In either incarnation, the FNX-45 is big and surprisingly light for its size. It'll hold more than even a double-stack 1911, fitting as many rounds of big ol' .45acp as some double-stack duty guns hold in 9mm or .40 S&W. I like it but you've got to answer the real question here: are you really looking to scratch the 1911 itch or can you live without one?

I used to have a Springfield Loaded 1911. It shot OK and I didn't have any reliability issues but I didn't like the hash marks on the slide. The edges on the hash marks were not de-burred and left with sharp edges. These sharp edges really tore up my leather holsters so I sold it.
Accuracy was good but not as good as my Kimber or Les Baer pistols.

I just got home from my LGS. I went in knowing I was either going to get the PX4 storm in 40 or the FNX40. Once I held both I chose the FNX with no hesitation. The ergonomics are fantastic on that gun.

Any of those should be reliable, I had a FNX45 and really liked it, but ultimately sold it as I just couldn't reach the trigger in DA mode. Of course I have that problem with lots of guns as I have a short trigger finger.
