Name that Pistol!

Okay, in the movie Terminator 2, in the scene where the Terminator and John Connor are going to get Sarah Connor out of Pascedaro mental institution, the T-1000 gets in there and takes the form of a chubby security guard (you know, the one that dies by having T-1000 shove a pointy extendofinger through his face?). T-1000 lost his Beretta 92 when the tow truck exploded in an earlier scene. I'm assuming he got the pistol he uses in the asylum scene from the guard he killed.

Anyway, in the scene where the T-1000 goes through the bars of the security door, you get the best closeup of the pistol he's holding. It looked an awful lot like a Browning High Power, but I wasn't sure. From the sound effect used, which was the same as the sound used for the Beretta 92, the pistol was a 9mm.

Anybody else have any idea? (Yeah, I know, I need a life. What can I say? I'm on Xmas break and have nothing better to do with my time. :D)

You're Right

Yes, after slow motion analysis + my handy Jane's Gun Recognition Guide, I believe you are right, it is a Browning High Power or a copy of it. Distinguishing features are the trigger guard and the hammer.

BOOYAH!

Little oopsie on Cameron's part, though. Notice the hammer is down when T-1000 brings it through the bars. We don't see or hear him thumb cock it or rack the slide.

You slipped, James. :)

Funny you should ask this question. I was watching Pulp Fiction the other day, and at the end of the movie, during the diner scene, Samuel Jackson holds a stainless automatic and points it at the robber (actor's name escapes me) and refers to it as "Mr. Nine Millimeter".

Ok, fine, but for one thing. It looked awfully like a 1911 to me, which as we all know, is 'natively' .45 for the majority of all production. Granted, there are some conversions, but if this is one of them, I'd be curious about that, too.

Any thoughts on this?

Name that pistol

Seems like there is an "oops" in just about every movie or TV show with gunaction in it. There is a scene in The Matrix where Keanu is running and firing, I beleive he is firing two 9mm's but the brass that is falling at his feet are .223 size cases. I don't own a copy but if anyone does maybe you could dble check it. I've only seen it once. Also, ever notice in Die Hard ( I don't remember which one) that all the bad guys with H&K 9mm (MP5's) are able to dispatch the SWAT guys who are firing M-16's and wearing Kevlar vests.

Rovert, I think the SLJ gun is a Star; which often served as Hollywood stand-ins for Colts, as they were more easily modified to shoot blanks. If you watch closely for the external extractor, you'll see a lot Stars when you think you're seeing a Colt.

Thanks for checking NikonShooter, for some reason that scene just really stuck out when I first saw it. Its definately one to own on DVD.

I had been thinking that maybe those Soviet subguns were 7.62x25 and that's what the bottlenecked brass is from. But it's probably movie magic.
