Naked Slide

I'm a big fan of the look of naked slides.
Has anyone ever filled-in the lettering on a carbon steel slide?
It's a Kimber so the lettering isn't extensive. I could Tig weld
it with steel or bronze but I'm scared of warping or weakening
the metal. Would epoxy or some other filler stay put without
shrinking? I'm going to have it refinnished/coated. This is my
primary CCW so i don't want to reduce the reliably in any way.
I shoot this gun aprox 20 rounds a week.
 
Interesting...perhaps another option would be to mill off the offending lettering on the slides as long as the lettering isn't too deep.
 
JB Weld is sandable and paintable (although I don't know how well it would take other coatings), and with proper prep of the metal I can't imagine it popping out of the lettering.

That could work. I thought of putting it on the surface grinder
but didn't want to remove the square cut serrations on the
rear of the slide. I suppose I could take a slight "high power"
cut back to the first slide serration. The lettering isn't as deep
as the serrations.

I think you make a good point about other coatings.
A difference in texture may show through.
I'm going to ask my smith about that. I am looking for some
education before I ask him and I'm getting that. Thank you.

That's the look I'm going for.
It's an ultra size slide (3" barrel) and I haven't run across anyone that
makes a replacement.
Any suggestions on where to look?
Im a machinist but in NO WAY a gun smith.
I want to put it on the mill but my lack inexperience is
stopping me. I don't want to do something foolish and
unsafe.
 
I guess the best question for me to ask is has anyone
thinned a slide and how much can you take.
I've seen slides with the tops flattened or ribbed and that
is more material than I'll need to remove to get the lettering
out.
I've also seen "high power" reliefs that are also deeper than I
require but not nearly as long.
 
I would call Fusion and ask. Bob Serva has always been open to answering such questions.
