Nagant Rev...or High Point Truck pistol

Looking for opinions and people who have used the Nagant Revolver and/or the High Point pistols in their vehicles as "beater truck guns". I have read quite a bit of stuff on the HP pistols and their bulky toughness but I can purchase a Nagant for even cheaper at or under $100. Would it hold up just a well? I shoot both autos and revolvers continuously and am used to both. I know the Nagant ammo is rare and pricey but it wouldnt be shot often.

I know for a few hundred dollars more I can get a Ruger P series and for a few hundred more a decent Smith or Ruger SR series or for a few hundred more I can get a Glock or for a few hundred more a low end Kimber….. Guess my point is I just want some info on which one you guys would pick. Thanks

I personally wouldn't own either one.
More importantly, I would not leave a weapon in a car/truck overnight or out of sight.
My EDC is on my belt--when I go into the house, it goes with me.
Why would I need a "truck gun"?

I have both, and enjoy shooting both as range blasters.
Of the two you are asking about, and hopefully not sending this thread down the usual Hi-Point bashing road, I would say a Hi-Point C9 would be a much better choice than the Nagant. the 9MM is a more powerful, lower priced, and easier to find round than the 7.63X38R for the Nagant.
AS the post above mentioned though, no gun should be left unattended in a vehicle without being securely stored to prevent theft. That doesn't mean locked in a glove box, or console. that means in a steel lock box secured with a cable to the seat frame, or some other immovable structure of the vehicle.

If someone's broken into your car and has a screwdriver to pry open the glove box, why wouldn't he pry open a box tied to your seat with a cable?

In any case, sometimes you have to leave a gun in the car if you're out and about, because there are places you can't carry. Or you may be in an area where you can't carry at all, but can have a gun in the car. That could be stolen in broad daylight.

I'm traveling right now with a couple of cheap guns. One is a Rossi I paid $50 for. It's a 38 5 shot snubby. The other is a Llama 45, the ugly one with the ventilated rib. I paid $99 for it. They both function flawlessly, and while ugly, are not nearly as ugly as a hi-point.

Another option is an CZ-52. Or used revolver like a model 10. You can probably find something like that for around $150, though it may take some looking.

OF THOSE TWO choices, take the Hi-Point. The Nagant round is not only pricey and hard to find, but really weak, and the trigger pull on those is supposedly horrendous.

J & G Sales in Prescott, AZ is selling used Taurus 82 police revolvers for 159. Look around for something more like that.

Also those steel lockboxes with cables are only $20 or so and much harder to break into than glove compartments, although I guess lots of creeps have cable cutters to take it away to open later.

An alarm would almost prevent theft of a gun in a lockbox, at least for normal thieves, but I guess if we're talking alarms, we would be talking nicer guns than you are.....

Go with the Hi-point. Ammo is much cheaper. Keep it clean if you plan on putting more than a 100 rounds through it. Go with the .40 cal as it holds the most rounds- 10 per mag. 45 only holds 9. Think the 9 and the .380 only hold 8 per mag (not sure on this- don't hold me to it). My 45 runs great if I KEEP IT CLEAN.

I couldn't tell you about the Hi Point, don't know anything about them.

I do have a Nagant, its a fun gun to shoot. I enjoy the heck out of mine, but I don't think it has a practical purpose in the SD or truck gun category.

I use to carry a "truck" gun, or left one in the car. I did it as a kid when I use to do a lot of trapping, kept a 22 revolver.

Later in my LE days I started keeping a spare revolver in the glove compartment of my police car after I got caught without a gun.

Now I constantly carry a pocket revolver, if I'm in the truck so is it, so I don't worry about it.

If I was to start carrying a gun in the truck, it wouldn't be a Nagant.

Again, I really like mine, but different guns have different purposes, and personally I don't think the Nagant would suit that purpose.

Hi-points are ugly and heavy, fairly reliable and if attacked by zombies, you can always throw it at them.I have the 995 carbine in an ATI stock,2" groups at 50m.Firing pins are a little weak, but should you break one and are the least bit gun savvy, a phone call and you'll have one inside a week.Or you can send it in,they wont cover shipping, but they toss in a couple of magazines for your trouble.Best warranty for an USA gun company.Academy sports has some great deals on Taurus autos, I have two, they have been perfect in the 2-3 years I've owned them.Don't believe the crap you see on the internet. They are well designed little pistols.Since they bought the Beretta factory, and kept the Beretta designers, engineers, smiths and assembly men. They even set up a repair center in Miami to cut down wait time on repairs.

I don't think either choice is adequate for what I would consider a useful "truck pistol". That use would be plinking, varmint disposal, or the unlikely need for protection. I would much rather have a Ruger 22lr Mk? or 22/45 which would at least be accurate enough to hit what I aimed at.

For my it would be the Hi Point. I have a C9 have no complaints. Inexpense gun for the truck or tool box.

Howard

Choose the high point, anything 9mm or higher will work better then a 150 year old(?) russian round that's hard to find ammo for.

I would also pick the hp I have a c-9 and it has been fantastic. By far not my favorite pistol as it is top heavy and bulky but it is comfortable to hold and shoots every time I pull the trigger.

HiPoint

Go with the HiPoint. I've owned a C9 & JHP 45 for many years. They've always went bang and have had several thousand rounds fired through them each. I originally bought them for range guns and was more interested in forming my own opinion of the beasts. Had a few FTFs & FTEs with the C9 but tweaked the magazine lips and all is fine. Of the two, the JHP45 has been the most dependable. Neither have ever failed to fire on the first round. Any issues have been mag or ammo related.

I've got both. I'd used the Hi-Point. I can find 9mm ammo. I've never even seen the ammo for the Nagant.

I know I can order it on the 'net, but frankly, I don't want it that bad.

My friend's wife refuses to carry, most of the time. So she has a truck gun, a
Keltec, P11, 9mm. It holds 10 +1 and it's always there, if she ever needs it.
It wasn't real expensive to start with. And, it's been around a few years.

I've shot it. It's okay. I don't necessarily like Keltecs. But, they're okay.
My dear wife has a couple she carries. She likes them. She doesn't need a truck gun. But.......That's where my friend found out about the Keltecs.
They are probably a step up from a Hi-point or a Nagant. Whatever floats y'ur boat.;)
