Finally decided to go for a Russian rifle of the Nagant variety. Can't find/afford an Enfield or the like for under about $150 unless it's in NRA 'good' shape.

Found some Nagant carbines online for $100.

Good deal? What's my range with something like this?

I'll probably continue to post these moronic questions until I can afford a FAL. :)

The advantage with the M-N carbines, like the M44, is that you don't need to bring much more than 50 rounds to the range. After about 15 rounds, you'll probably not want to shoot it much more.

If the barrel is in good shape, go for it. They're fun to shoot and ammo is inexpensive.

I have two MN's one the full length M39 and the carbine M44.

A good grip and a tight hold to the shoulder is requisit for an enjoyable shoot. I can touch off about 60 rounds before I have to stop. But, if I make a mistake the shooting usually ends right then. They are not very forgiving! :D

Before they leave the factory they have to shoot a 1.5" group at 100 or 150 meteres (can't remember which :().

It shot better than my AR on the last hunt I went on (But, I'm sure it was the shooter, not the gun).

Xxero,

I've GOT to ask why is the M-44 more accurate with the bayonette extended?

My understanding is that the M44s were sighted in with the bayonet extended. There is a change in point of impact with the bayonet extended vs folded.

I found my Polish M44 to be surprisingly accurate. I originally bought it to serve as a trunk gun/beater gun that I wouldn't shed a tear over if it was stolen or destroyed. Now that I've shot it quite a bit, I've had to rethink that intent.
