I'm considering buying one of the NAA Mini revolvers. Would appreciate any opinions or comments on these little "critters". :D

Wade:

I own a North American Arms .22 Magnum with
the 1-1/8" barrel. They make for great little
pocket guns; or serve well as a back-up to a
larger caliber weapon. :) Don't expect to hit
anything consistently beyond 10 feet or so. :D
But, it sure as hell would get a perp off of
you in a hurry!

I have one like AlaDan`s. It`s a neat little thing, very well made. More kick than you`d think with the tiny birdshead grips and a LOUD muzzle blast too. With lots of practice decent hits out to 15yds. can be made but not quickly. At half that distance good hits are pretty easy (again with lots of practice!). Every so often I`ll do multi target drills with it just for fun. They can be done *fairly* fast and accurate enough to get the job done but it`s a hairy process! Kinda like trying to hold onto a wet frog who`s trying to get away while keeping it pointed at the targets! LOL! :D If you like the minis but want more accuracy and shootability get the Blackwidow version. Marcus

Wade,
Let me tell you of my experience with North American Arms. I'm still flabbergasted.
I decided to buy the .22 Mini when I was in the hospital. For once I had a good room-mate who was something of a gun authority. He also brought a lot of reading material. At that time there was no carry license so I decided that a tiny .22 which could be easily hidden would be just the thing. I bought the Mini and it never worked right. It was religated to the drawer of unused items for many years. Finally, I took it out one day and sent it back to NAA stating that if they couldn't repair it, to just keep it. To my surprise it arrived in a few weeks with $150.00 of new parts. No charge!! Just a completely rebuilt and updated pistol. It works great! The point of all this is that NAA will do anything to make you happy with their products. (Lifetime warranty) I say go with the Mini. You'll never be unhappy with it. I ended up buying a Guardian also. Great little pistol. I'm completely satisfied.

Posted on another thread I bought one Fri.

"Oh my, I am So in Love.

It slips into my pocket like nobody's business. I'm carrying Federal Gold Medal Target because according to thier site it's got the best average FPS than any other round besides the HP's. (How many gun companies do tests like that?) Tonight I went to a jiggle bar, went home, Went to a party, danced and never once had to worry about whether or not I was printing. Also I was able to keep my clothes tucked in and not hanging out. (I hate looking like a slob.) Then I walked down to the corner store,(at 1 o'clock in the morning) and came back. Knowing that I could get to my NAA much faster than I could've gotten to my Tomcat in a Bellyband. Which is the only other carry set that could even come close to equaling the ease of carrying this little gun.
I wouldn't take it into what I considered a "high threat" enviroment. But for the scenario I'm likely to encounter, it's perfect."

Let you know the Range report this weekend.

My opinion is based on limited experience and talking with NAA owners. The grip is best suited for a 7 year old, but the firepower is adult. The one time I shot one was at a distance of 7 yards. With careful aiming, I hit the 18" x 18" target 3 times out of 5, but not once near the center. This is definitely a defensive weapon where shooting a BG results in changing his mind (not removing it) or slowing him down (Ouch that hurt!), but probably not stopping him unless he has changed his mind. I think Ala Dan is right in that it would be good to get someone off of your. Or it might actually be good for actually hunting mice if you can get a tiny scope mounted on the top. Without a scope, you might not want to shoot mice unless they have attacked you and you want them off your person.

This is a follow up to my previous post of
07-28-00.

Regarding the North American Arms Mini's:

For all TFL member's that smoke (which I don't) another excellent way to carry a
concealed "deep cover" gun, is with the
use of an empty flip-top box available
from Marlboro cigarette's.

Often times, while in "hostile situations"
whereas the sight of a duty weapon would get
you killed, you can slip one of the mini's
into the empty flip top box. With five rounds
of .22 Magnum's; this is one way of having
an invaluable life insurance policy. :)

If the BG's figure out who you are (LEO or
informant), then the NAA mini might get you
out of a sticky situation?

Best Wishes,

The same commnets here as above. I just got one a month ago. After the frist session with it I was impressed enough to send an Email to NAA complimenting them that I felt this was one case in which I got more than I payed for.

Ala Dan, one of the first things I did with mine was try to put it in a cigarette pack. It is the 1.125" barrel version and would not fit in a 100 size cigarette pack.

Gunslinger

Gunslinger,

I'm very sorry, I overlooked the fact that I
should have mentioned that I also own the .22
LR version, and that THIS is the weapon that
will readily adapt to the interior of a
Marlboro box!!! Guess I got the cart before
the horse, UH? :p

Range report on my new NAA Mini.

Bought it used from the Gun store Yesterday. Took it down to the range today. What a Fun gun! The range I shoot at allows the closest target to be 15 yards away. After a box of Federal's I was hitting in the black. It's feels small in you hand and once once or twice I thought I had pulled the trigger all the way when it was in the first joint of my finger. The little thing leaps up when fired rotating on the grip. But there is no real kick. The report was hardly there while wearing earplugs.

No misfires, No complants.

Easy to clean too, I could put my little finger in the breech and fill the barrel up with CLP. A small tooth brush, a bunch of Q-tips, and a borepunch cleans it out well.

For self defence though. If you pull the trigger, and the Goblin's mustache doesn't catch on fire, your not close enough. Definately a Face gun.

On a final note. You WILL get strange looks. I was shooting next to a nice lady and her .357 Taurus. On the other side of me was a Man and his wife with thier Big Guns. You have to be real secure in your manhood to show up at the Range with one of these. :)

Strange looks is right, I always would make jokes like what if someone held you up with a NAA mini- I don't think the victim would know whether to laugh :D or cry in fear :(.

I have found it interesting to note that the bird's head grips from the little mini-mag also fit perfectly as replacements for the oversized rubber grips of the 2 inch heavy barreled Black Widow. Also that, although of small caliber, the Black Widow version easily exceeds the muzzle energy of most .32 loads out of 2 inch barrels (with the better loads). The new CCI "TNT" loads are reportedly loaded to Maxi Mag +V velocity but utilize a sort-of Gold Dot hollow point.
These 30 grain loads are capable of as much as 1300 fps (at least 1200) out of the Black Widow. Odd, funny looking, different, yes...but for sure not toys. Just about 8 ounces fully loaded (with bird's head grips).

I'll be purchasing one in .22 short within 9 months. Why? Because my wife thinks it's "cute" and she wants me to engrave it for her. I said sure but only if I can get a new P226. She said YES!

The best weapon for self defense is the one you have when the need arises!

I own two minis, I love 'em to death :). I've got a MiniMaster (4" barrel version of the Black Widow) with the factory rubber grips shaved down in an interesting way. See also: http://www.ninehundred.com/~equalccw/jimguns.html

I also have a semi-rare old Freedom Arms .22Mag mini, 1.4" barrel and a grip the same size as the current NAA .22LR. Four shots, frame-mounted firing pin, really freaky little beastie. Pics/specs/comments at the same link as above.

Had a .22 magnum. Sold it a few years ago. It's a great little gun and I wish I never sold it. The only problem was I used to get rust spots on it.
