Has anyone here used a NAA Companion or Super Companion? What is your judgment or recommendation? Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. willr

Super Companion

I bought one about a year ago. Quality control problems, because NAA doesn't manufacture their own parts.

The first time I loaded it, and put it in my pocket, the bullets fell out of the cylinder. Chamber diameter was too wide. I sent it back to NAA. A month later, it was returned. The first time I fired it, the bullets keyholed, and many bounced off of the wet phone book I was firing at. Some did manage to penetrate about .5" into the book. Most didn't even pick up any rifling marks. Bore diameter was too wide. Sent it back again, but when I got it back (another month), I sent it out to a gunsmith, and had a forged barrel put on it. I haven't gotten it back yet, but I hope to this week. The factory barrel is cast, and it's nearly impossible to drill a precision bore in it.

Don't believe the test article that NAA has reprinted on their web site. It also is nowhere near "equivalent to .22 Magnum", or even .22 LR, unless you use smokeless powder.

If you buy one, I would buy directly from NAA. Ask for Jennifer in customer service, and ask her to please have the gunsmith look at it, and test fire it, to assure that you won't have these problems. Jennifer is very helpful, and will go out of her way to make you happy.

I got into a big thing with Sandy (NAA's owner) over this. He tried to tell me that Dick Casull designed the thing as a novelty. BS. That's a weak knee'd excuse for a lack of quality control, and I told him so. Then, Jennifer took it upon herself to help me. I don't think they would have a company, without her.

On a brighter note, it's strong enough to use smokeless powder in, as it was designed for .22 mag. cartridges. A lot of guys use Bullseye, and Remington #11 caps, with great results.

Freedom Arms (formerly owned by Dick Casull) used to make a higher quality version of the mini. If you can find a used one, you would be better off than with the NAA version. But, they are rare.

If you want the oversized winewood grips, or the boot grips, order them up front, and have NAA fit them before they send it to you. Otherwise, you'll have to send it back for fitting.

Good luck.
