NAA .22 mag ammo

Ive had this little pistol for awhile and have it loaded with dynapoints since I got it. I got to thinking the other day which ammo is best for it as far as heavy 45 grain or lighter because it is coming out of a shorter barrel. Now before anyone says anything about I wouldn't carry a .22 or go bigger I do have bigger guns I carry when I can but sometimes it's hard to conceal my 1911 or full size 9mm with my 155 pound build and shorts and t shirts. I also know of the new short barrel ammo out now but in general what is better for these small guns light or heavy bullets?

Use what you have.
My carry is a .22lr. Bad guys may not be very smart but they are smart enough to know they don't want to be shot with anything.

the federal or cci TNT magnum bullet has been getting consistant expansion results out of the short barrelled NAA mini revolvers. The CCI short barrel magnum round has also been getting good reports. The Hornady short barrel ammo has been getting spotty reports of failure to fire.

Has anybody tried the Federal GameShock 50gr Magnum ammo in a mini, or is it strictly a rifle round? I like a heavier bullet whenever possible.

My favorite NAA BUG is to go "big" although "big" in this case is still a tiny little thing. The 4" Mini Master with two cylinders. Practice with the .22 LR. Carry the Magnum. You can tuck that gun into lots of inside coat pockets with no problem. And my chrono shows decent results with the longer barrel. Lots better than with the much shorter barrels. It's a decent little woods gun as well. I've carried it when fishing like a Ruger Bearcat. Great little high quality stainless revolver.

Load it what ever goes "BANG" and have a good life!

I wouldn't sweat it. I have a NAA mini revolver, I carry it with stuff that shoots, not Remington.

Thanks for the replies guys. Like I said I've had it for awhile now and always carried heavier bullets in it. I was curious to whether the lighter but smaller was better for penetration or the heavier for more " punch" but like I said before I have bigger guns I do carry but I still carry my NAA as a back up even for them. As far as the comment on a woods gun mines the 1 1/8 barrel do anyone had any luck with the shorter barrel in the woods as far as snake and so on?

I carry speer gold dots for the .22 mag. They have consistantly expanded for me when fired thru wood pallets and wet phone books. I used to carry dyna-pointes because they were the best penetrators until ithe speers came out. The dynapointes would never actually expand. The speers penetrate as deep as the dyna-pointes. I've always found the speers at gander mountain. The gun I have is the short barrel standard mini.

I have killed many many rattlesnakes with the little gun using snake shot. Only one time did I have to shoot one twice.

I have a 1 5/8 mini mag, here's my ammo experience:

Hornady 45gr CD, 30% failure to fire rate, won't be using these.

Gold Dots, cases expand and make the cylinder very hard to rotate occasionally.

CCI 30gr maxi mags, always go bang and quite accurate.

CCI 30gr TNT's, not tested yet.

Dynapoints, a few failure to fires.

CCI 40gr FMJ's, not tested yet.

Out of my AutomagII, Winchesters shoot a lot hotter than Federal or CCI. That said, they might be too hot for a 1 5/8" barrel. I haven't tried my new midi yet but once I give it a try with various ammo, I'll report back.

As with any firearm used for self defense, the NAA mini guns should be tested with the ammo one plans to use. When I bought my Pug, the salesman sold me a box of Winchester ammo. On its first trip to the range, the gun would lock up after one or two shots. I assume this was due to the fired Winchester shells backing up when fired. I contacted NAA whose reply went something like" yeah, we've heard of that happening. Try CCI. That's what we use at the factory."
Never mind that on their website they had a statement to the effect that their guns would function with all popular .22 mag ammo. They also had a note in the manual that the gun might not work with PMC ammo. The CCI works fine in my gun as does the Hornady Critical Defense but if I go back to the Winchester, it locks up every time.
I couldn't help but wonder what if I had loaded it up with the Winchester and had to use it for self defense before I had had a chance to test fire it. I note that NAA no longer mentions ammo on their website.

Hmm, interesting, thx, CD. I don't like most of CCIs stuff, but that doesn't mean I dont' give it a try (when I can get a box on sale anyway).

Federals are too hot also, can freeze the cylinder. I guess I'll stick with CCIs.

The new gun shoot pretty low also... I have some ideas on how to remedy that but I wish I didn't have to.

I had some old Federal 50gr FMJ that was hot, but it didn't lock things up. I shot some TNT from CCI and it had a huge flash. I mean distracting big white flash like an old camera strobe. I have a semi-jacketed HP from Winchester in it now, in wet newspaper it deforms the tip and then tumbles even if it doesn't fully expand. I just scored two boxes of the new CD rounds and I'll probably use those and shoot up the stuff in it. Those CD shot great in my Savage rifle, just haven't got around to using them in a pistol yet.
