Myth or not

As a kid, I was told a Browning A5 could and would malfunction with enough use and go full auto. I forget which part would fail, but the result was three to five rounds on full auto. Made an impression on me then and certainly would now if it could occur. Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of that happening, and more than one part would have to break, although a protruding firing pin might cause a "slam-fire" scenario

Slamfire, bounce fire or "overheated barrel cooking off rounds as they enter" (while watching the barrel sag/melt :) ), most weapons can be contrived to malfunction to full auto.

As mentioned above, a stuck firing pin could cause most any weapon to auto fire, and many guns will bounce fire with a very precise finger and shoulder control.

Single trigger double barrels have been known to "double" also, especially with high power loads with lots of recoil.
