Mysterious message this A.M.

B. Strong

Inactive
When I signed on here at work this morning to check E's, I got an "instant message" window.
This is unusual because I did not configure for these, nor have I set up a "buddy list"
The message sender never I.D. themselves to my satisfaction, and began asking pointed questions concerning what hours I was on site, and where the business was physicaly located.
I canceled contact.
Has this sort of thing happened to you?
Could this be the E version of telemarketing?

That happens - It is called PROBING... Kinda like dialing random numbers and seeing where you get.

99% of the time its nothing. Dont worry about it. But it has been known to be hackers finding out all the employees ids at a company... And when it is a hacker - the subject usually has a friend in that company.

thats something that you don't config in IM. If someone IMs and isn't on you list, the window will just pop up. to keep this from happening(random people IMing you) check you preferences (i think thats were its at) and make it so that people can't search for you.

It ain't mah fault. did I do dat?

Thanks for the help guys.
I changed the settings (per chinks advice)
for instant messaging.
It was a very odd moment though.
