After viewing a recent post of the purchase of a 6" Colt Official Police, I found this 5" on auction. It should be here in a day or two.

Tell the Mrs. that she'll never take me alive!

How much did you have to give for it?

Any idea as to the age?

I took mine shooting this past weekend. The action is wonderful, but I don't much care for the grips at all.

See what you've started!

At least when he's sleeping outside in his dog's house,,,
He'll be well protected with the new Colt.

Heck with the doghouse.

Since Mike started all this, it would only be civil that he offer Chesster a place to stay. :p:D

Just looking out for a TFL bros. ;)

Congrats Chesster... I think!

Mike, BIN on auction was 389 + shipping + a few bucks to my generous dealer to handle the transfer. I have not checked the numbers yet, just guessing 1927-1945 or shortly there after because of the front sight and checkered cylinder release. I have a near identical 6" from 1942 and a 6" with the newer front sight and cylinder latch from 1966 if memory serves.

Possibly could have saved $30 by waiting until end to bid but had other obligations at that time. My dealer tells me it has a bit of muzzle wear from holster but locks up like it just left factory. I will probably store the grips and replace with a pair of knockoff "Pach-style" presentations with the gold ponies I picked up cheap a few years back. These are great shooter grips.

Made in 1935.

Rummaging in the safe tonight, I came across a COP 4", marked as such on the bbl, serial # suggests mfg in 1954 with number in the middle of the Marshal range, Yet this OP had a ROUND butt and NO "M" prefix on the serial #. There is an additional 5 digit number stamped on the rear grip strap like a department inventory #. I love a mysterious oddity.

I didn't even notice the old style half moon sight. Neat.

Now that I have the OP, and am finding out just how neat a gun it is, I think I may be back in the market soon for a Police Positive Special, which is what I originally wanted (one of the old ones with the rubber grips).

Or, maybe I'll do a splurge and get myself a New Service. I've always been fascinated by those monsters.

Years ago I got several old PPS .38s which had been reimported from Columbia I think from J&G. They eventially all went to friends and family. Good mechanics but finish gone on all of them. You can still find the .45 Colt CNS for reasonable prices. One of the most accurate I have is a 5.5" .455 Eley converted to .45 C. Until this one, I aways thought the converted guns would be less accurate. One of the least expensive was a 5.5" .45 C marked N.Y.S.T.

New Service prices seem to be pushing $1000, or more, these days.

I remember not too long ago you could get a really nice one for $400 to $500 while comparable Smiths were far more than that.

Of course, back then I didn't want one...
