My universal decapping die broke!

Dang.....I'm processing about 1700 5.56 brass and my Lyman universal decapping die blew up! Literally the tip of the pin came out in like 3 pcs! Now I've misplaced the case to check for a berdan primer!

I'll call Lyman on Monday....maybe they can help. To keep going, I'm planning to pick up the Lee at the store this morning. Any thoughts Lee vs the other brands?

It is not an early failure....it has probably done 1000's of brass.

I like (and use) the Lee design decapper. When the pin meets an obstruction, the collet holding the pin allows the pin to move, thus preventing it from bending/breaking.

I wish this were a common design for all decapping pins, even in sizing dies. My only complaint about Lee dies is I hate their "lock" ring so I end up buying rcbs rings

Love my Sinclair decapping die. I bought the 17-20 cal rod for my .204. Works great. Lee didn't recommend theirs for 20 cal.

Lyman took weeks and finally responded 1 yr only?

Well, I bought the Lee. Had to reshape the end of the pin so it wouldn't smash the mouth when doing 223.

Yup! Next set of dies I buy, probably. 223/5.56 may be RCBS, Redding, or Hornady.

I don't use the universal decapping die, if I am going to run them through a decapping die...I want them resized when they come out. But, I have broken a couple of primer pins...it is always a good idea to have extras...although, on occasion, I have had to rob the pin from another die...until I could get a replacement.

The whole reason I use the universal decapping die is so nasty range pick up brass doesn't go through my nice dies
