My two year anniversary!!!!!!!!!

A couple of weeks ago TFL became two years old and today is my two year anniversary of signing up. I thought TFL was around LONG before I showed up, guess not. We now stand at over 7000 members and that number grows daily. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank Rich for giving us this great forum to discuss all things gun related without having to put up with all the ads and Java scripts that slow down other message boards. I also want to thank the moderators who keep us in line so the board can focus on the gun related topics that it was intended for. This board has been very important to me as a way to keep up with gun rights issues and attempted abuses by the antis. It has allowed me to keep up with legislation so that I can notify my reps and of rallys so that I may attend to support our cause. I have had the honor of meeting many of you in person at gun shows all over the country and that would not have been possible had this board not been here. I hope to be able to meet many more of you in the years to come, even you 'new guys' (I can say that because I think that I am officially an 'old guy' now). It has been a fun two years for me and I hope to be around for many more. See y'all around and shoot straight. Jeff

Ah....in the present company, Jeff and Gary, I feel just like a junior member again with only one year, ten months and eleven days. ;)

Here is a question fellow long-term TFLers, when do you have to have joined to be considered a "plank owner"? :)

Jeff OTMG,
Congrats on getting your second "hash mark"
I've still got a couple of months to go before I get my first one......yeah, I'm still a TFL rookie. ;)

Rich Lucibella registered on Oct. 6 and was testing the original software on that day. DC registered even earlier Oct. 1 (making her Honorary Chief of Operations). However, the first to have registered from the outside was Rob on Oct. 9 and that's the date Rich considers as TFL's birthday.

I think i'll be going now. I thought I had found a friendly forum where everyone's ideas and support were solicited, but there seems to be the usual BS good old boy network in place here, too. Some of us newer "members" might have some valuable or intelligent things to express. How many post 1 or 2 times, get no response, and leave? Your loss, I think. I will continue to be : GOA, NRA Life, 68-74 USN vet, patriot, libertarian, cynical, loyal, active. Just not here. Ray

Ray, I hope you are kidding. I think the only purpose of this thread was to just say thanks and kind-of reflect on how different things were in the beginning. And how there was only a few people in the beginning but that number is growing rapidly as more and more gun-owners tell each other about this forum. If you go to any forum on the internet, it is going to have it's "Old-timers" and they will have already made friends with a few or the other people on that board before you arived. That doesn't make you an outsider or mean that there is a cliche. I wish people would get over themselves and quit thinking that just becausr they walk into a room (so to speak) that everyone should instantly know them and want to meet them. If you make yourself known with good posts and helpful knowledge, then I think you will have no problem meeting people. But when you post stuff like this it sure makes you look foolish. Goo dfolks are on this board and since we are all on the same side here it is stupid to think that a member is an "outsider" because they haven't been around 2 years. I only registered back in March and I knew that there were people here that knew each other and that had met before I arrived, but if they talk about old times, I sure don't take it as an insult or a hint to leave. You might want to re-think your position and remember that, you are not an outsider unless you make yourself one. Just my 2 cents.

No offense intended to anybody new was meant. I just really like this place, and have a lot of friends here. And sometimes I just have to marvel at the astounding growth, when I joined there where only something like 300 members or so. Times have changed.

Some of us here have communicated quite a bit, so of course we know each other better than somebody who hasn't been around as long. I've learned tons of good info from Jeff's posts. But I've also learned from some people that I can't even remember their name, or have ever talked to them before. :)

I think camaraderie has been mistaken for "good ole boys". Heck, I've posted questions which have gone unanswered. Check out my inquiry about John Garand's birthplace in St. Remi, Quebec. I was staying there and hoping that someone could dig up the address so I could swing by and have my photo taken by it. Tried a couple other websites besides TFL and no one knew. That no one knew is blameless and the same may be said for other questions which go unanswered. By and large the vast majority are answered and our members have been candid, honest and respectful. That is the spirit of TFL: to promote open discussion on firearms and firearms related topics.

Take it for whatever it's worth. Respectfully,

4V50 Gary
