My Surefire E2D just died.......

Seems as if something has gone all hinky in the tail cap of my E2D. It will turn on, if I click it 10 or 12 times whilst standing on my head with my tongue hanging out just so. It will then turn back off if I click it 10 or 12 more times whilst pirouetting counterclockwise whistling the theme song from "Sound of Music".

Since I look incredibly silly doing either of those things I called Surefire. Spoke with someone in Customer Service named Adrian. He took my name and address and said I would have a new tail cap assembly shortly. If that doesn't fix the problem he gave me his direct extension number so that I can call back for an RMA# to return it for repair/replacement.

So, while my Surefire has died, I'm confident with the help of their Customer Service dept. it will soon be resurrected. :D.

sounds like a fantastic tailcap!

mine just twist and turn it on, not to rub it in. some days I wish life required a little more personality

Well, there's your problem. You need to whistle the Major-General's Song from Pirates of Penzance. I'm surprised Surefire CS didn't mention this to you. For shame. :)

Sometimes the contacts at base of the lightbulb or inside the tailcap can become covered by a thin film of corrosion. Try gently rubbing them clean using the eraser end of a #2 pencil; tap or blow out the eraser/gunk residue.

This may restore the light to full function.

Also try gently extending any visible compression spring by a 1/4" or so. This will increase the pressure of battery to contact mating.

I'm on my 3rd tailcap assembly for the E2D. They've gone through at least two revisions because all three of mine are different designs, but each twisted on and worked properly with my light. I did get a customer service rep on the third one to admit they had some troubles with the tailcap design at one point.

For the most part customer service is good at Surefire but I did have a snafu with my second tailcap where I had to request it 3 or 4 times over the course of a month.

We have to remember that any company, for any type of product can have defected products from time to time. What it all boils down to is how that company handles the situation when it does arise.
From what I can tell Surefire does a pretty good job of handling those situations.
