Picked up a LNIB Ruger Super Blackhawk today. Put 50 .44 Special and 20 .44 Magnum through it. Sweet shooter... I like it!

That's a nice piece. My dad picked up a Ruger Bisley Super Blackhawl in .44 Mag when I was about 14. That gun was a great shooter, wish I had it now.

Is it a gift for him?

Yessir...birthday present. Due to his age I'll have to carry it to and from the range and deer stands, but it is 'his' gun.

You are a heck of a dad

Thanks! I do my best to support his interests when I can afford to. Taking a whitetail at short range with a revolver has been high on his list lately...

Friend of mine has one, told me that the screws shoot loose and one needs to tighten the screws every 300 rounds or so.

^^^Jim, that's good to know. I'll keep an eye on them, and if that becomes an issue a little loctite should do the trick.

I can say this, putting 300 rounds of .44 Mag down range might take a while. The Specials are soft shooting, but Magnums...not so much. :D

That is a nice revolver. Always liked the SAA style for their elegence. Though right now I'm actually looking at a S&W 686 in .357 Mag.

A Super Blackhawk has been one of my favorite hunting pistols for many years, sure hope you and your boy enjoy yours as well.

He got to shoot it today. Put a cylinder full of Specials through it and commented that my S&W 442 .38 with +p's has more recoil...then we loaded up some Winchester 240g JHP's.

First shot, he got the big eyes real quick. All he said was 'owwww.' After adjusting his grip he started again. He's pretty stout for 13, but after half a box he was ready to shoot the Single Six some more.

If I had two brain cells to rub together I'd been shooting video with my phone. Apparently I only have one and it wasn't on point.

I also surprised him with this:

Wow, what a sweet gift for a 13 year old. Dad of the year nomination for you! My dad gave me that very same gun a few years back. Shooting full power loads with those grips is not fun in my book. I put a set of Hogues on mine. Doesn't look as nice, but much easier to shoot. If you do decide to get some aftermarket grips, they need to be Blackhawk ones for that model. Don't get Super Blackhawk grips, as those will not fit.

I'm going to post one last thing and let this thread go.

My Ex's dad was admiring his grandson's pistol last night, and today while we were at my son's scrimmage he offered up his old RCBS press, manuals with his load data, dies for various calibers, scales, molds and several pounds of both pure and some lead alloy...

I almost fell off the bleachers. I am humbled by his gift. Got a little choked up on him, too. He's retired Army/LE, and I have much respect for him and all he's been through and done for our country.

Count your blessings, gentlemen. Big and small.

That's awesome! Reloading is every bit as much fun as shooting in my book. Very rewarding. And it's a fun hobby to enjoy with kids. My kids help out with reloading. My 4 year old even gets into it. She can go through the whole shotgun reloading sequence without any cues from me. Of course I'm standing right there watching her every move :)

Enjoy!
