My shotgun says cal 12 not 12 gauge...

This might be a stupid question but my shotgun might be really old and it says cal 12 on the barrel but when I put in a 12 gauge shell into it, the metal end if the shell doesn't go in smooth and the only way it went in is I forced it and I had to get some thin long rod to push out the shell.. I was givin this shotgun for free on the pretence of if I can find out the correct shel for it I can have it for free... So I'm freaking confused if cal 12 is rhe same as 12 gauge... This is my first shotgun so I have no clue... I'm not new to guns just stumped on this shotgun, I was told this might be European and about 100 years old. The only things it says is "pointer &gun" on the left side and a four digit serial number under the trigger loop and when I open the
Shotty to load a shell it says ec cal 12... If y want I can send pics to an email... I'm on a iPhone so I can't post pics through this site.

Yea the shell I tried using is a Winchester 2 3/4 in -1-8 that's what it says so what exact shell would I look for and does this sound 100 years old?

Have it inspected by a competent gunsmith. It may not be safe to fire. Also, the gunsmith will be able to tell you what size of a chamber it has.

Welli can tell it's been fired it's still dirty.. And when I put in that 12 gauge shell the shell goes in but the metal part at the end fits
Really really snug... And to rake it out cause it was stuck I had to get something to push it out from the end of the barrel.. Have y'all heard of anything weird like this? Or heard of a company called pointer&gun?? I looked every were and can't find them ANYWERE!!!

If its that old and shells fit that snug take it to a competent gunsmith before trying something like shooting it with modern ammunition.

It sounds like you're trying to cram a 2-3/4 into a 2" chamber. The advice about finding a COMPETENT smith who knows old guns is very wise, lest you use modern ammo and it decides to have a catastrophic failure
