thanks everybody! It was a shock to find the Sixes Unfired. They are outstanding to say the least. I have some big Herrett's Shooting Stars for the Speed and The Ruger Oversized Target Grips from their website on order for the Service six. I'll post pics when it gets here.

Very nice. I was under the impression that the Security Sixes all came with adjustable sights. Am I wrong?

Doyle:

1)The new model(151 and up)serial number prefixes the Security-Six was only cataloged with the adjustable sights. Both the Service-Six and the Speed-Six had the fixed sights. The Service-Six had the same aquare butt as the Security-Six and the Speed-Six had the round butt.

2)The old model(150)serial number prefix Security-sixes initially were offered with both the fixed and the adjustable sights. However the early "fixed sight" Security-Sixes went away as their name was changed to Service-Six-thus leaving only the adjustable sight Security-Six in place. Then later on, the Service-Six was eventually stamped as a Police Service-Six.

boa2-- Some good history I didn't know.

Do you know when they changed to the scalloped recoil sheild? Was it just a cosmetic adjustment or did it serve another purpose? All three of mine have the round shield.

skidder:

The scallop on the right recoil shield began to appear by at least serial number 158-14100. This would have been in 1982. I have a Ruger news letter somewhere which indicated that the scallop was done to make the Security-Six easier to draw out of a holster than the prior round recoil shield style-mainly for police usage.
