I was out shooting and shot a Blaser hollow point, 158gr I think at a 5 or 6 inch thick piece of wood and it went clean through and into the ground. It did not open at all. I know this is cheap ammo but it should open, right?

Probably not on wood. It takes some type of hydraulic effect to get a hollowpoint to mushroom. Try water jugs, wet phone books or ballistic gelatin.

Incidentally, a lot of Blazer ammo these days uses Speer Gold Dot JHP's, being owned by the same parent company and all.
