My Ruger .30 Carbine BHK shoots high

I am using moderate loads--4.5 of Bullseye or Red Dot with a Lyman 311008 bullet (120 RNF) for a bit over 1,100 FPS Muzzle Velocity--at 11 paces it is shooting 2" high. The sights are made for the 110 grain factory loads at close to 1,500 FPS; the longer barrel time accounts for it shooting high. I had this same problem with a Superblackhawk when using .44 Spl ammo.

I cut a strip of aluminum flashing stock to fit over the front sight blade to increase its' height by about 2mm and then epoxied it onto it. The bonus is that the shiny surface is easier to "pick up" in the rear blade. So far the expoxy has held.

Too bad that Ruger didn't offer a front sight that they have on their SS guns...it has a slot for a blade and it would have been easy to have made up a taller one to use with it.

You've got two options: Buy a taller front sight from Ruger and have your gunsmith install it, or have your gunsmith mill off the blade and cut a groove in the ramp, then pin in the correct height sight.

My Super Blackhawk was done this way:

The latter method, pinning a new blade, doesn't require refinishing the barrel.

Not too big a job for your gunsmith.

Both bad options...will see if the epoxy deal holds up for me, thanks for the suggestions. If it does't work out I best send it back to Ruger...

Front sight

The epoxied strip of aluminum on the front sight blade did the trick. It now shoots to point of aim with cast bullets, I am delighted to say.

Both are your best options. Cheapest and easiest solution would've been to cut off the existing blade, mill a pocket into the base and install a pinned blade as Bob suggested. Sorry but your epoxy and aluminum solution sounds like a rigged-up job.

If the sixgun has the correct front sight, Ruger likely would've done nothing.

Rigged up job

Yes, I suppose that it was, but it does work and IMHO looks just fine...and it works. Not easy to find a local gunsmith to do such work...and shipping to and from is very expensive as it must be shipped with special handling..you cannot use regular ground UPS or Fed-X.
