My purchase at the Houston gun show

First, thanks to all who provided valuable advice on what to buy. I knew I could count on you guys to set things straight.

The choices were a new gun, a reloader, or accessories. Logic dictated a reloader, but if I listened to logic, I wouldn't spend an hour or more on TFL every day or so reading about guns, writing about guns, dreaming about...., well, you get the idea. Anyway, my newest possession is a S&W 638 Airweight (yes, it was new, but it was the last one the dealer had or will ever have - he ordered and paid for it before they sold out to the socialists and was more adamant than I was about their treachery). To get it, I had to trade in a S&W Sigma 380. No love lost on that one - what a piece of junk, even though I never had a misfire, just inaccurate as all get-out past five yds.

This new gun is sweet - I feel like we were made for each other. Beautiful lines, light weight, and with the punch of a +P .38s to boot. Took it to the range same day and enjoyed our first time together. Definitely a diference between the regular .38s and the +Ps!

Now the real dilemma begins. What do I carry on a regular basis - my G23 with night sights, or the 638 (both loaded with Hydraskoks). Any advice?

I'm surprised someone even took a Sigma 380 in on a trade, the only way I thought someone could get rid of one is by donating it :).

Anyway, congrats on the new piece- I like those Airweights, but won't be buying one.

Only you can judge comfort and concealability. I'll take it for granted that you'll practice enough to be equally adept with either critter.

There are two paths: Learn to shoot your best "concealer"; or learn to conceal what you shoot best--which is a real problem if it's a Redhawk. :)

Regards, Art

A Sigma ????

A sigma is nothing but a wannabe Glock, just my opinion, not to downplay peoples personal choice of a weapon, but I owned a Sigma 9mm. compact ( blowback operated, not locked breech..) and it was NOT reliable, even the magazine catch was a funky "pinch" release at the bottom of the grip. I think that S&W
really went tits up with the Sigma, and not too well with the Walther clone P99...
Maybe it was all a precurser to their final INSULT by selling out their principles to Save their hides...

GIT_SOME,

Relax, he traded it in. He did what most of us would have done.

Rock_Jock, congrats on the new gun. Those airweights sure are nice. You done good. Hopefully the dealer that sold it to you really is against S&W and dont just give everyone that line to sell more guns. I wish i had a POS sigma to trade in on something....

Yeah, I can't believe I bought that Sigma piece of junk in the first place, but I'm glad its gone. I like the Airweight, and I'm happy I could get it without violating my conscience. It's the last new S&W I'll ever own.

Hey, Congrats on your new pistol, I didn`t mean to go off on "Sigmas" like that, Just had a baaad experience with one.
You did the right thing trading it in for the Airweight, I wanted an Airweight TI(titanium) but couldn`t afford it then, so went for a Taurus 85 Ultralight .38 and have had goodluck with it...

Enjoy my friend... :)
