My PT-145...

is being sent back to Taurus after only 350 rounds. I had so many hopes for this to be a solid, reliable concealed pistol. I guess the old Taurus semi-auto reliability stories are now haunting me. I've loved the feel, weight and performance of the thing, but the reliability is now in serious doubt.

The first trip to the range - I put 200 rounds of Winchester WinClean .45 ACP through it and I had 5 light strikes, obviously resulting in misfires.

The second trip to the range - after 150 rounds the trigger return began to fail. I'd pop off a round and the trigger would remain soft and limp - something we don't like with any of our tools :-) I would have to manually push the trigger forward in order to fire another round. I did this a few times and after each round fired it would fail.

Besides all that the steel part of the frame on which the slide...uh slides is very worn. Something my Glock toting friend told me is the result of poor milling. With the slide in place it can be slightly rattled and rocked on the frame, another bad sign.

I'm hoping my experience is rare and that they can get it into shape. I'm sending it off today and Taurus said they have a 3 week turnaround right now...so I'll have to wait that long to find out.

Anyone have similar experiences? I'd love to hear them. I'd also like to hear about how many rounds anyone has put through one of these trouble free.

Thanks.

I've put about 350 rounds through mine so far. Think I might go back to the range tomorrow and put some more through. I haven't had any serious problems with my PT145 yet. Only a couple of times where the slide wouldn't complete chamber the bullet, but that is quickly remedied with a quick tap to the back of the slide.

I believe denfoote has put about 500 rounds through his so far and hasn't had a problem.

Please let us know how Taurus treats you as I also have been thinking of getting a PT145 myself. I have never had to send a pistol back to the factory thank GOD, but if I did I would want them to make it right.

I have 600 rounds through mine trouble free. The only problem has been a burr on the ejector that prevented me from reassembling the gun. This was taken care of with two swipes of a file!! This was at the 500 round mark. I then went and put another 100 rounds through the gun with no problens!!!:):)
Mine is ready to be put into place as my carry gun. Taurus is real good with their customer service. I had to send a revolver back some years ago. They promised me it would take three weeks to get my gun back and it arrived on the twenty-first day after I sent it out!!! I have not had any problems since!!!

Over on the NAA page there is a review of the Guardian 380 that had the same problem.
Everyone guessed a bad batch of springs.
Apparently they had several reports of trigger return springs breaking.
I have seen this with KelTecs, not a broken spring, just wouldn't stay put.

I think everyone gets a bad lot of parts, has an occasional lemon, etc.
I bet we can even find someone who has had a Glock spring break. (No, not realllllly.) :-)

I hope to put another 100 rounds through my new PT145 on Friday.
We won't know for another year or so, but I am really hoping that this turns out to be a reliable gun.
I have a feeling that if it is not, Taurus will make it so.
