Mentioned a 45 in one of my other threads, but have seen a couple other large caliber guns catch my eye. This is what's on the list of possibilities:

STI Spartan
Taurus 608 6"
Taurus PT 945
Sig P220 (used)
Taurus PT 1911
Glock 21 (used)

You can chime in with opinions and suggestions. As you can tell, I'm looking for something in a larger caliber, that will be reliable, accurate, won't break the bank, and has moderate round capacity.

Have you given any thought to the Ruger P-90 or it's more trimmed-down sibling, the P345? I'd say that either one should fit your given criteria. They're not as trendy as the Sigs and / or the Glocks, but they're very reliable [in my experience] and quite affordable. The Taurus 608 is ported,as I recall, which for me personally is a deal breaker. That porting tends to make an already loud round [.357] even louder, which in a home defense scenario is not a good thing. Not to mention those hot gasses coming up out of those ports can really ruin your day if they should hit you in the face, which could happen if you find yourself with a bad guy literally on top of you and you have to fire from a close-to-the-body weapon retention position. I personally have had my agency-issued Sig P220 break it's trigger return spring on me a few times on the range, which left me with a non-functioning weapon. However, another TFL member has set me straight on this and I've learned that the offending part needs to be monitored and changed out periodically. I can't speak for the 1911s, but I have shot Glocks before. Even though I personally don't use them, they are very tough and reliable. All of this is,of course, just my opinion, and I could be wrong...but heck, shopping around for a new bullet launcher is always fun no matter what you buy ! Good luck.

Don't over look Eaa's Witness Match Elit as a single action. They do have DA/SA pistols too. This pistol can change to any of 6 different calibers on the same frame for 200 bucks. And do this for less money. Mine cost me 499 out the door and then bought a 9mm kit.

If you have a chance to buy a Sig, why would you even consider anything else, particu

Indeed - I completely agree - Why is that even a question? Sig of course.

Out of those listed, I like the STI Spartan way more than the others listed. Personally, I'd like an STI LS40 more, but I could live with the Spartan.:D

Of all of those, I would narrow it down to the STI, Glock and Sig. Never was a fan of Taurus. Had a couple of them and non ever worked right.

However, you might want to look into the new remington 1911R1. It can be had for about $600, and someone on this forum is going to post a range report soon. That might be something to hold out for.

The P220 just can't compare to a 1911. Especially the SAO.

I had a lemon Sig 1911 that went back to the factory several times, they couldn't get me another new 1911 because they didn't have any, and so out of frustration I asked for a P220 Carry SAO.

It's wider than a 1911. The bore axis is higher, resulting in more flip.

I can't recommend a Taurus anything.

Given your choices on there, I'd suggest the STI Spartan.
