My newest and final pocket pistol?

:D

Recently picked this up and like it alot. So far I have only put 100rds through it, heading to the range now with 150 more.

Its a S&W mod. 442 That was a distributor run, its magnaported, action slicked up and has a tritum night site insert.

I swapped the uncle mikes boot grips for a pair of ebony checkered eagle secret service grips.

The trigger is very nice, very smooth no stacking feels about 7lbs, the magnaporting makes it a pussycat to shoot.

I have been looking for a suitable replacement for the 342ti* I regretably sold a few months ago, (don't know about you guys but I regret every one I sell soon after), Dealer got it from his distributer in early 1996 and it has been in his safe since.

I've had 5 outher j-frames in the past, 649,642,36,37,342 and like this one the best. I am cunrrently using win. 110 sthp's for a carry load.

Can't take that bet Sam.

This is the 4th time I've gone back to a J-frame of some sort over the years though for pocket carry, So it must be the right piece.

Thats what I'm telling myself anyway. ;)

You have just posted a picture of my next pocket pistol. :)

I've shot Mike Irwin's 042 and find it to be just about perfect. Can't get one of those though and Mike ain't parting with it, so the 442 is the next best thing. Ideal weight for me, shoots nice, feels nice, sweet trigger. (Like you (whether you admit it or not), it probably won't be my last.)

My "final" pocket gun is a 337. I like the slight weight loss over the airweights. I also have a 317 .22lr which is a woods/run the dog gun. I'll never sell them.
Sold off my Glocks, a 19 and 26. Neither are pocket guns by any stretch, and lack the class revolvers have.

Hello Pocketman!
The Kramer is working out fine. It seems to want to retain the gun when I want to draw, but I believe some wax on the interior will fix that. The square panel completey disguises the gun no matter what. Its also very thin.
Depending on what I'm wearing, Uncle Mikes works well too and stays in the pocket.
The shape of the "J"s alone makes it look lumpy and indistinguishable.
rotate between 125 gr Nyclads and Cor-Bons. Have a few old Cor-Bon 110 gr too. Damn things are HOT, can't imagine shooting magnums in these Sc guns

"My newest and "final" pocket pistol"

Do you have any idea how many times I've said something like that as I left the gun shop with another box in a plastic bag??:D
Pocket, let me tell you~there's AlWAYS ANOTHER out there somewhere! What are you going to do when that new R-baugh 9MM gets in? Just walk away like you have some type of RESISTANCE or something??:D :) :D

KR (BWAHAHAHAHAHA...choke, yer killin' me!):p

Hey Mal,

I'd probably part with it for a price. How much money you got? :)

The 042s are available, and they really don't command premium prices. There just weren't many of them made, only about 5,000 or fewer.

KR....You could not be more correct. :D This whole gun thing is too much.

I will go on record as saying "at this time" I've found my perfect pocket piece, not that going on record means squat because I've said that a bunch over the last few years.

One this about this stinkin state I live in (massachusettes:barf: ) is the gunlaws have saved me a ton of money.
I would of "had to have" a polimer kahr p-9,mp-9, colt mustang pocketlite, naa guardian 380 and definitly that new r-baugh 9.

All kiddin aside though, I really like this 442, although the porting is controversal on a ccw piece the difference in shootability is very noticable, It honestly shoots like a mid size 9mm.

Pocketman, how about a pic of the sight and ports. Thanks man. I have been looking for one of these for some time. Do you notice the trigger as being any smoother than your previous J frames?

sox.. I'll get a pic up of the ports and front site.

My most recent J-frame was a 342ti* that I sold a few months ago, I loved the weight and allthough I could shoot it fairly well, (my best groups were like 4-6'' @ 15ft) I just could not consistatly punch holes where I wanted to with every shot, so it stayed in my safe and I went back to a small auto for daily pocket cc.

Ultimitly I missed the light j-frame and its power, and I am very happy I found this piece, The ports and nitesite really ice the cake, because as I said above there is no question the magnaporting greatly improves its shootability.

Pocketman we sound alot alike, as I too had a 342. I also had a Taurus 85UL at the same time. It was much more controllable, actually comfortable to shoot all day. I couldn't tell if it was the porting or the extra 3.5oz? I would bet the porting had most of the effect, but even my little M38 is way more comfortable to shoot than the 342 was.
