My new Turkington .243

Well ... First of all I want to thank George and Art for not scaring me away from this project ... I am tickled to death with how it came out. While it is possible to make a Turk into a modern caliber for a very reasonable price (using a Rem 700 takeoff barrel like I did), the project doesn't seem finished until you put a trigger, stock and scope on it ... and the parts start to add up. Still, I put this puppy together for under 5 bills with a:

Turk 1938 action
Rem700 .243 Win take-off barrel
Boyds JRS stock
Bold trigger
Leupold QRW rings
Tasco 3-9 mil-dot (if it lasts, I'll be as happy with this scope as I am with my Leupold VariX-II)

Last week I ripped a prairrie dog head out of a hole that was 230 meters away with the first shot ... another one that was standing at 311 meters (aren't laser range finders great) vaporized on that first attempt.

If you were wondering, the silver part on the muzzle is my version of a Browning BOSS that I made in the shop ... it works :D

Thanks to everyone who helped me on this project!

nice... I too build my own custom Mausers... there is great satisfaction in taking an old action, and building a percision rifle around it, and making it look like a million bucks to boot!

Job well done! now get started on the next one!

Thanks!

Hemi: I'll be finishing the BOSS (this time with a brake) for my 300 WinMag this weekend ... that one got tested last week as well, but the recoil needs some management  Boyd's is WAAAAY late with the stock for that one, though, so it won't be looking sharp for a few weeks yet! That's OK ... I want to get out and really tune this one first anyway :D
