i just aquired a Colt Detective Special .38 1959 an was wondering if i am able to have it re-chromed? it came from california an it is pitted from the salt water.

Congrats but that would be a NICKEL finish. :)

You can have it stripped and refinished in nickel but any pitting will
need to be polished out after stripping.

If it's already pitted, it's not going to have much collector value.

Not much beats a Detective Special, so if I found a beater at a good price, I'd either figure it's a beater to shoot a lot, or send it to Colt.

For a pitted shooter, I'd have it stripped and parkerized as someone in the past did with this Python shooter.

Mine new colt

My new colt looks exactly like yours but is blued and the finish looks extremely new except for two little Knicks. That's factory right?? I paid $ 500 bucks I hope I got a good deal. According to the serial 46600 or so it was made in 65 I believe. I would post a picture but I'm not sure how

You may want to talk with Ford's Refinishing. If you want to spend the dollars, they can restore it to better than new.

You will never get the money back, but you will have a one-of-kind gun.
