Hello everyone.
I just picked up my new Makarov from my FFL. So far, I really like it. I'm very pleased with the quality of the gun.
I was under the impression that it was a Bulgarian Military Mak, but once I got it home I noticed it has the Russian mark (triangle with verticle line inside a circle) It also has what looks like russian letters in the serial number on both the slide and frame. The frame also has "C.A.I. GEORGIA VT." on it.
On the other side, the frame is marked "BULGARIA" and "9MM MAKAROV"
It came with what makarov.com describes as Bulgarian commercial grips.
I'm confused!
Can anyone help explain this?

I'll also see if I can figure it out over at Makarov.com.

Thanks

Sounds like you got one of them mismarked Russians they've been talking about over in the makarov forum

I think those got Century Arms in a little bit of trouble with the BATF

but I think its perfectly legal to own one.

That sounds exactly like what you have. Check the forum link that was provided and search back a little ways. Lots of discussion about it. Sounds like it is a good "problem" to have.

I've been over at makarov.com for a while now and I've gotten some good info on this gun.
It seems like it was a lucky find!
I can't wait to see how it shoots.

Thanks for the replies

I also got a mismarked Russian with Bulgarian stamps. Shoots well enough but then any Mak is a shooter regardless of country of origin. Congratulations on the find.

I've got the exact same mismarked Russian, as well as a Circle-10 "true" Bulgarian. How much did you pay?

I've found the Russian to be a smidgen better in quality overall, but it shoots noticably better than the Bulgie. So good that I put it on my permit!

Pat yourself on the back and celebrate with a case of Wolf ammo. Enjoy!

I paid $145 for the mismarked Russian. Bought it four months ago. It was still in cosmoline. I find it shoots about the same as my Bulgies and East Germans.
