Was born this morning, 8lb 6oz, 21in healthy baby boy...

Mom and son are both doing fine...

I'm now soliciting options for his first gun... Ideas (beyond the obligatory Red Ryder)???

You are doing some fine work there and congratulations on your new blessing. ... :)
Eventually work him into some Traditional M/L's .... :D

Be Safe !!!

Glad everyone`s doing good. The best years of your life are just beginning. Enjoy every minute cause it goes by soooo fast. Congrats!

take him to a banquet and let him win one - my 13 year old son just acquired his first gun that way scoring a Weatherby Vanguard 7 mm mag.

First firearm story

When my son was born I was at the hospital. The powers that be would not let the father in the delivery room in those days. After delivery and spending the proper amount of time there making sure everything was ok with Mother and Baby - I went to Whataburger and chowed down. Then I went to Gibsons (no longer around but a pre-Walmart type store) and bought him a Ruger Single Six (22Mag Cyl included) and put it up for later - when he was ready.
Then I picked up our daugher (staying with friends for the blessed event) and went home.

When he was about 6 I taught him how to shoot it and we put many bricks through it over the years. Now that he is "grown" he really appreciates this weapon and hopes to keep it and pass it to his children. Has a daughter now and I expect her to be some kind of Annie Oakley. He is a master (insofar as this is possible) benchrest shooter now and spends a lot of time quibbling over .230" groups and things.

We also did the BB gun thing but he really preferred the rifled barrel Pellet guns more. These are not "firearms" as such but it was what he used most often in his personal solo shooting experiences. I have a couple of single shot 22 rifles he wore the grooves off of, also.

Broke out the 1911 when he was about ten or so and he acquired a taste for that, too. Then some 20 guage activities. Then some archery --- and so on.

Magic moments (all of it) for me and he seems to have a true appreciation for it also.

Hope you have a lot of good times, too. Best of it all was spending all that itme with him. I may continue later on about my adventures with my girls - it has been just as rewarding but just a little different than the boy. One of my daughters turned out to be a really fantastic marksman and will be getting her CC license soon.

Next chapter is the hunting experiences. I was a little too long winded and didn't get to that part. Might be the best part.

Congrats!

I say go buy one of those little takedown Browning 22s and put it away intil he is 10 or so. It will be aged real nicely by then.

congrats.

Wife and I are expecting our 2nd (gonna be a boy) in a few weeks.

as for gun selection a good bolt action single shot or tube fed .22lr would be my choice.

me, I just purchased a remmy 700 BDL SS DM in .300 win mag for my soon to be son :D (that was the excuse I told my wife when I asked to buy the gun) :D

in reality he is getting my first gun, an ancient stevens tube fed bolt action .22 .

my daughter I got a marlin model 60 for and at 4yrs old she can hit cans and squirrels with it when I take her out (I still have to carry it and we use shooting sticks or a bipod since the gun is still too long for her, but me shortenting the LOP on the stock did help out a lot)

My daughter is 2, so she's approaching the Red Ryder stage of firearms development, soon to be followed by one of those pink Cricket .22lr's... Can't wait until her little brother is old enough to wield a rifle of any type...

Congrats!

I've got a 9 year old girl (who was 10lbs 3oz at birth) and a 4 year old boy (who was 9lbs 15 oz at birth) and is currently a solid 70lbs and looks like a dang 7 year old. My wife wants another one and I'm on the fence. I figure if the good Lord wants me to have another he'll provide.

I've bought both of them Marlin 75's and just bought my daughter her first shotgun. A Remington 870 Youth Express 20 ga.

Big congrats!

That's a lot of gun for a young'un.

I like the CZ line for a first rimfire rifle.

Congrats! My 8 year old and my 1911. Deadeye!

I have the same ear defenders :D

and nice photo :)

My dad never brought me out shooting (a lot of my friends hunted but I never did), when/if I have kids they are going to shoot.

Due to limited funds in my young years, my dad wasn't able to get me a gun for me until I was around 12. I used what he had, mostly a 10/22 and used it for rabbits and squirrel, killed a small doe with it once, she walked right under my stand while I was squirrel hunting... Popped her in the back of the head, never took another step.

I fully intend on outfitting my kids with their own guns. Obviously starting them out with BB guns and the like, moving from there to .22's, on to .223's and then probably to a .243 or .260...

Is a 8-32x60mm scope too much for a Red Ryder?

Congrats, sir! The CZ Scout is an excellent rifle for beginniners, comes as a single shot, but the block may be removed to use a magazine later.
