My new 223 Tikka

A while back I asked for opinions on a new 223 bolt gun I was looking for. First I want to thank all of you that responded. I did end up with a Tikka 223 and I am very very happy with it. The first 50 rounds I put thru it were Remington umc's and I was NOT impressed. I did some reloads with various bullets weights and I will have to say that it now seems that I get great results with just about every bullet weight from 50, 52, and 55 hollow and soft point. I even picked up some ppc 50 gr varmint rounds just to have the brass and yesterday in a 10 to 15 mph wind I was shooting 1/2" groups at 100 yds. Just wanted to update. Thanks

I just recently picked up my second Tikka T3. In .223; my first being in 30-06.

I found one with a 1-10 twist. I specifically wanted this rate after some research and thinking about it; I already have a Remington with some work done to it with a 1-12 that regularly groups in the .2s and .3s.

I haven't put too many rounds downrange yet, we have had some recent -20s, snow, and ice, so only put 10 on targets of opportunity last time out.

I plan on working up some loads for it, but not the highest on my "to do" list for this month.

Which twist rate did you pick up?

What's the twist on the 223 Tikka ? My Kimber is a 1:9 so it will take up to 70 accurarately I assume.

You guys are making me jealous!!! I have a Tikka 595 in .223 and it's a great shooter, but heavier than I'd like, so have been thinking about getting a T3 Lite in that chambering.

My T3 Lite in .243 Win shoots lights-out and carries very well when hunting yotes on the tree/blueberry farm behind the house, so I really don't need another rifle (in .223), but what the heck. The .223 doesn't bark quite as loudly as the .243 and recoil is nil.

I got the 1/10 twist rate and I know I didnt mention it before but I did get the Lite, mounted a nikon buckmaster 6-18 mildot on it that has turned out to be a very good scope for the money, the other thing I like about the scope is 1 click is 1/8 in instead of 1/4..
Up here in the northeast we have just started getting the cold and wind so my shooting will be cut way back until spring, woodchucks and coyotes, watch out.

Congrats on your Tikka T3. Very nice rifle. Impressive accuracy from off the shelf rifles, not just hit or miss quality but seems very consistent accuracy for the brand.

What's the twist on the 223 Tikka ?
.223 T3 came in 1-12, 1-10, and 1-8.

I believe that they are only making the 1-8 for the most part now. Don't see the 1-10 even listed on their site. And have only seen the 1-8 recently in gunshops that carry Tikkas.

I too thought the Tikka was only coming in 1 in 8 but when I got mine the paperwork stated that it had 1 in 10..maybe it had been around a while although it was a brand new gun in the box.

On the barrel the twist rate on the T3 is listed only as a single number.
You will see for example:
10
12
8
along with something like: .223 Remington ...

I purposefully found a 10; I want to be able to shoot 40 grains without them coming apart from excessive rpm, and am not as interested in going much above 60ish grainers at the heavy end.
