its rough but the bore is nice. has rounded finger repair where a new fore end was attached and bottom part of stock was reattached, kinda like late war arisaka's. metal is shiny, no blue, trigger has a TON of creep but breaks like a glass rod. bore slugged out to .310"

anyone have advice on these and a set of dies to spare? got trade
 
I usually get my dies from midwayusa.com if it's a fairly common caliber I get RBCS, if it's not I end up going with cheaper Lee dies. they're usually cheaper than anything locally. I don't know anyone that reloads x54R, most people buy it for the cheap steel cased surplus anyways.
 
I used to hand load for my M39s just for kicks. I used RCBS dies and assortment of bullets, 308, 310 and 311. It's promising but I got too lazy and hold off handloading for now. Among the best ammo I had used are Czech Silvertips and Polish lightballs - the Polish being a little better. Hungarian Silver/Yellow tip (180graniers) are pretty good too but are shoulder bruiser for me. I have Darrell Scout scope mount and Tasco ProClass 6x held by Warne rings.
 
I always see slightly used 7.62X54R dies for sale at the Gun Show, they sell cheap. Last month, $20 big ones, complete, RCBS, including the shell holder.

I have always used Lee dies for my surplus rifles and with very good results. H4895 for the 150g range of flat base bullets and IMR or H4064 with the 168g to 180g bullets for longer ranges. Like in this 1935 28/30.

supposedly the fins had extremely high expectations out of their rifles, if a rifle wasn't capable of MOA accuracy or close to it they would reject it.
