I've been experimenting with different factory ammo and think I have settled on this Double Tap 180 grain bonded JHP - Below are some photos to illustrate expansion. I think it will be an ideal whitetail round and overall woods carry round. I am real happy with the expansion and weight retention with no signs of bullet fragmentation.

I am sure that at close range you will effectively kill deer with lung shots with this setup.
Is this to be your primary deer hunting weapon?
Is it legal?

Yes, in NYS, we can use Handguns and this is considered overkill. You can actuallu hunt whitetail here with 9mm or 38 special!

nope

The 460 is still my big bore of choice. I actually bought this Delta Gold Cup for only 650.00 from my local dealer and couldn't pass it up. I had previously owned one and traded it in and have since regretted that - Have always kept my eye open for another. This is surely lighter and easier to use than the 460.

just be sure to check the regulations carefully for the semi-auto. in my state, the magazine can only hold 8 rounds including the one in the chamber. my state allows us to "plug" the magazine, some do not, and others just do not have such restrictive regulations at all. good luck this year. just remember, the most important part of the hunt is what happens the three weeks before it starts! (pre-season scouting)

thanks for advice, but I am sure

I have beem handgun hunting in NYS for over 15 years and know the regs well. Believe it or not, for NYS, the handgun laws for hunting are not too shabby!
