This was all over the news last night here in the Pocono's. Only reason it stuck in my mind is because i've gone to this gas station several times on my way to or from the state game lands range (about 2 miles away). Goes to show you that guns and alcohol don't mix well (ever)!

Gun was supposedly a WW2 era gun that got thrown off into the woods!

Yes you are right, Guns and ETOH do not mix.

The pump must have had some kind of electrical power to it to cause the fire. I know its always possible, but not likely that a round will cause a fire.
I have seen tracers fired through gas cans and propane cylinders without causing fire.
“We had about 6,000 gallons in that pump,” Marek said. “I hate to think what would have happened if he hadn't been there at the time.”
That is a statement made from watching to much TV, most fuel stations have submersible pumps and a fire safe check valve under the metering station that we call a pump at the service station.
Would armor piercing ammo for the Mosin Nagant be common?

On the news they showed how he hit it. It was right into the pumps filter housing. Pretty good shot if he was actually trying to hit it there, but from the video (shown on tv) there is a flash when the bullet hits and then everything just goes up!

Could have been electrical or could have been the round - not sure - just struck me because i've stopped there several times on my way to or from the range.
