I like this rifle. Any rifle that shoots this well and has this good of a trigger, yet I paid less than a hundred bucks for, well, I like that. :)

I modified the stock on mine, figuring "what the heck", as the stock was not in such great shape anyway. I shortened the forearm of it, giving the carbine sort of an Enfield Jungle Carbine look to it, and took off the bayonet (though it can be put back on). As I said, though, the stock is not in great shape. It's solid enough, but the buttplate is loose (the screw holes are threaded) and the wood inside of the stock, where it contacts the metal, is in poor shape.

There's light rust from storage in some places. and the outside of the barrel's finish seems to be chipping off in some places, but I suppose I could get a reblueing kit for that if I really wanted to bother.

It'd like to get the synthetic stock for this one of these days. I'd also like to scope it. There's the problem.

There are two scope mounts that I've seen. One is a standard fare that mounts over the receiver, and comes with a replacement bolt handle. But, it seems to me with a scope right over the receiver you'd have a hard time loading this rifle.

B-Square, apparently, makes a scout scope mount for this rifle that replaces the rear sight. I've never seen one of these mounted, though.

Has anybody had any experience with either of these mounts? Are there any others?

http://www.mosin-nagant.net, "The Workbench" forum, is a good place
to find out lots of info on M44 and other MNs modifications.

The first scope mount you mentioned is a piece of crap
in every respect, designed by somebody who has no brain.
The second one may probably work, if you don't mind to use long eye relief scope (basically pistol scope) with very limited magnification.

BTW, this nice looking fiberglass stock you're talking about looks nice only on the outside. You'll need to do quite a bit of work inside the stock to make it fit the action correctly. Do not hope to get better accuracy with
this stock as is.
