My model 60

Hi everyone! I just wanted to post a pic of my Smith & Wesson model 60 .357 mag I just warmed over.
First everything was disassembled and glass beaded to a satin finish, then treated to a trigger job and rosewood boot grips.
Some may think it might look like the Lady's smith model, but I really like the smoother more custom shop appearance.
So what do you guys think?:)

Very nice! Wanna do mine next? :) How about a porting job, too?

Seriously though, can you tell us about how much the custom work cost?

Thanks everyone for the replies.

ATTICUS,

I can hold around 2” to 3” groups at 15 yards with 125gr speer gold dots, so I’m pretty happy with its accuracy.

YosemiteSam357,

As far as the custom work, I did all the work my self so thanks for the complement. Actually I’m sure anyone that is mechanically incline can achieve the same or if not better results than I. I already have a glass bead cabinet, so I just disassembled, plugged and taped off barrel, cylinder & etc. Put it a Trapergun spring kit. ($12) Did some minor polishing of the trigger group parts, and added S&W rosewood boot grips ($46). So I really don’t have a whole lot into it.

That model is in the running.......

for my next toy. How is the comfort level with the boot grips? I'm looking for a good used model 60, Ruger SP101, or Taurus 605 and can't make up my fool mind!

Lots of SP101's around but not so the Smith mod 60 (or am I looking in all the wrong places?)

Very nice piece of work. I really like the entire look. As to the grips please let us know what kind of grips they are and where I can purchase.
Thanks in advance

I'll have to get my wife to check those grips out for her 60; she wants larger grips, the ones that came with the gun hurt her hand, too slim.
Any other suggestions for larger grips for a 60? She won't be carrying concealed, so she's open to try anything to make it more comfortable. She's not shooting .357, only .38 & .38+p, although her's is a .357, the muzzle flash and recoil were too much for here (and she was watching ME shoot them).

Prodigalshooter I found that the oversize wood fingergroove grips worked best for me. They are available from several sources (Hogue, Badger, Ajax). The boot grips are concealed a little easier, but the oversized grips allow you to get a better grip and they absorb more recoil.

Way nice DUDE  I would like to do that to my SP...the grips look nice too. How does a 2 finger boot grip made from hard woods....effect felt recoil? As bad I think it would?
Shoot well

Just to let everyone know, I purchased the rosewoods direct from Smith & Wesson.
As fare as shooting comfort, I don’t think they are that bad. Everyone has a different tolerance for recoil so I would not suggest the two finger rosewoods for a person that is recoil sensitive. Just to give you an example, I let a friend shoot it that was only use to shooting nines and forty’s. When I explained that the gun doses have some pop (was loaded with full power 357 mags), and that he better use a good strong grip, he just replied “ yeah sure this little thing” as if this model 60 was some kinda wussie special. Well, you should have seen his face after he lit one off and the gun just about left his hands! (And also mine when I thought he might drop it!!!) After that I think he definitely gained a little respect for snubby.

So if you were going to make a range gun out of it, you might be better off with the longer combat style made of rubber. But if its going to be a pocket gun used for defense, and know what your in for shooting 357 mags through it. You will be just fine.:)

Hi ws6mro:
Does Smith have a catalog with the rosewood grips pictured? What is the catalog or part no? I would appreciate any info. Thanx in advance
Herb
